Soup :: Jessica Zalusky Suffers Stroke :: 11-17-2008

She may not have been the fastest, but she had bigger balls than most of us! I met her about 12 years ago at the Bally's health club and she approached me about a racing shirt I was wearing and we talked for a little bit about the current racing classes. She is one of the nicest racers out there! Get well soon!

Sorry to hear that. She is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I met her at Mid-Ohio, I believe it was, a few years ago and talked with her before qualifying. She did not qualify for the race by the slimmest of margins. When I found out, I went back to her paddock and talked with her some more and encouraged her to hang in there. She is a class act. Hopes for a speedy recovery. You go, girl!

Racer Jessica Zalusky Suffers A Stroke Following Knee Surgery

From a press release issued by Jeff Heronimus

As a close friend and team member to Jessica Zalusky (AMA Roadracing #172 - www.roadracinggirl.com), I’m writing this note on Jessica’s behalf to inform friends, fans, and the racing community that she had a stroke last night (Sunday November 16th).

Doctors found three (3) blood clots in her brain which they immediately cleared via a special procedure and currently are keeping a watchful eye on her in the ICU of a hospital near her home in Minnesota. At this point, plans are to move her to the Stroke Unit tonight.

The stroke affected the left side of her body. However, as of this morning, Jessica is aware of everything that has happened, is talking yet resting, and is starting to get feeling back on her left side.

Jessica has asked me to notify everyone that she’s doing fine and wanted her fans to know that her family is taking good care of her as she hits the road to recovery!

We’ll do our best to get updates out as time permits.

CRA #2 goes under the knife...

From a press release issued by Zalusky Racing

Jessica Zalusky underwent knee surgery on Friday, November 7, in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota, by Dr. Bradley Nelson and Dr. Elizabeth Arendt.

The knee surgery included medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction and lateral retinacular lengthening. Zalusky sustained the knee injury during her pre-racing career as a professional snowboarder.

Zalusky came out of surgery around 5 p.m. local time on Friday and is now resting at home.

Zalusky will have similar surgery on her other knee at a later date. She anticipates an early 2009 return to road racing.

Just this evening, I'm thumbing through "Sport Rider" and my 5 year old daughter spies a picture of a girl in gear in a Dennis Kirk ad. She says "Look, she's a motorcycle rider."
Then she pauses for a moment and asks "Why don't girls RACE motorcycles?"
I said "They do. Hold on a second."
I went to the garage and pulled down an autographed Jessica Zaluski mini poster I got from her at Road America. I brought it back in to my daughter.
"Look, she races motorcycles. Her name is Jessica Zaluski. She signed this for your mom and wrote "Girls Rock" on it.
"She rides a motorcycle just like me" said my daughter. She looked at that poster for a good long time.

Jessica has done more good for girls than anyone else I've ever met. I sure hope she recovers.
