Hey guys, I'm still considering adding a superbike and found a brandnew (2004) 998S, thats refered to as one of the Final Edition 998's. My question is, where can a find the spec's on this puppy. Does the S have the Ti Connection rods? What's the HP and Torq. ? Redline? Etc. etc.

Re: What's A 998S Final Edition Got (Mental998)

Thanks Mental.....would you have any idea what a fair price is for one of them. I found about 3 of them, but have only spoke with 1 dealer. He wanted $20k for his, which I thought was way too high, especially in light of the fact that the 05 999S is suppose to be a superior bike, relative to the 998.

IMO, the 999 body isn't anywhere near as pretty; And 998 has just got sex written all over it.

Anyway, do you or anybody else know what a fair price is?

Sorry Mental but buy the 998R in the classifieds if you want a 998.

I agree, foggy. I don't know what he wants for it.... but it is an awesome bike.

As for price, $20,000.00 is about right. It's just a matter of what bike floats your boat ...the 998 or the 999.

Re: What's A 998S Final Edition Got (Mental998)

Gilbert,

I paid 18k + tax all fees included and I preordered it. Now that winter is here and the 05s are coming I think 20k is way too much.

For 20k they should include the upgrade kit (cams, ecu, half system) I paid $2100 for that kit. So I basically got the euro spec bike less the deep sump engine for 20k.

Re: What's A 998S Final Edition Got (calamari)

Thanks Calamari, and by the way, I have also found a 2002 998R, but the dude wants almost $40k,....which is way out of line, I think (?).

Also, it's my understanding that the 998R (unlike the 999R), can not be registered for street use. It is a pure bred race bike. Sure, I'd still give my left nut for one, but at that price, it'll have to wait. Who know's, maybe I'll win the lottery next week.

I've kinda fallen out of love with the 999's, once I saw a 998 sitting a couple bikes down from a 999, ....I just got to say, what the phuck happended to styling on these superbikes.

When I read the second paragraph on that web page.... it makes my blood pressure go up.

‘Cause it’ all bullshit.

You've got to read the "fine print" at the bottom.

But... it's still the best looking Duc out there......

Re: What's A 998S Final Edition Got (Mental998)

Here's a new FE for just under $17K in Georgia.
It looks like they just cliped the text from ducati's site that is linked to a couple of posts up. So unless this is the Euro version
I don't know how much I would trust the dealer... since they don't have all the correct info that they should.

Re: (vecc12)

I came real close to buying one myself but could not get any information on it. It turned out that the only difference between a standard 998 and the FE was the Ohlins suspension. I got fed up with the dealer not being able to tell me anything other than where to sign my name, I pulled the plug on the deal. I wanted an up grade from my 03 999 but the engines were basically the same and the price was 20K. For a bike I had never ridden and never seen and with no information I figured I needed to stop the madness and move on. Glad I did, got a 2004 999R Fila instead.

Re: (vecc12)

So vecc12, you would make that kind of investment with a dealer who doesn't even know the product they are selling? Maybe I just value my money and where it goes more than some others.

There is a big difference between the US FE and the Euro spec. Advertising the Euro spec is just like going to a sale at sears, Bait and Switch.

I guess since Ducati had this same description on their USA website, they must not now what they are selling either. I sit back and watch these threads of people bashing dealers for such trivial things with no understanding of the recourse of their actions. These dealers have a hard enough time trying to sell bikes and the people still want to beat them up over price and descriptions in their ad. Have you tried talking to the dealer. Probably not. You feel safer behind your keyboard.

"Advertising the Euro spec is just like going to a sale at sears, Bait and Switch."

That's classic. Comparing Ducati Dealers to Sears.

Like I said. Taking this way to seriously.

The FE has the Olins suspension, and stearing damper, 4 pad frount calibers, and a carbon-fiber lower. The US version is an S model in suspension only. The 02 USA 998S models were also S in suspension only. The Euro version had the deap sump motor. I have a new 998 FE for sale at a very fair price. I also have the upgrade kit from Ducati for the bike. The kit includes the R cams 50mm 1/2 system and R ECU. I will sell the bike delivered with the upgrade kit installed for the retail price of the bike alone. That is about a $4,000 savings. Also the 998 FE is an 04 model so it can be finaced at special rates. I also have lots of other goodies for the bike at very special pricing. If anyone is interesed please email me. I will not post blow-out or reduced pricing on the internet, it only cheapens our product. But Ducati has reduceded the price of many item for the 998-996-916 models. Ducati has also worked hard to reduce the pricing of many 999-749 items in an attempt to help dealers stock more inventory and reduce repair costs and repair turn around time.
