Removed my air filter today. The filter & airbox were filled with these green/blue colored pellets. The pile in the picture is only about 1/3 of the total amount I removed. What the hell is this stuff?

You are wrong, my friend. That would look more like this:

Re: What is in my air filter/box? (redmhducati)

Sorry to say it, but you may have a rodent problem. Those pellets are mouse killer. The mice mistake them for food, hide them in their secret hiding place (your bike's air intake) and when you started your bike the motor pulled them into the filter. My father has this problem with his bike. Mice stash their treasures all over his bike and he is constantly having to set traps. Advice - get a cat or get some traps. Mice can do damage to wiring or other parts of the motor if they decide to knaw on hoses. Worse yet, they make a nest where heat may ignite the nesting material - flame on.

Re: What is in my air filter/box? (SABOT)

You know the rodent problem occured to me, but I don't see how. There's no way they're in my garage. It's spotless & more maintained than my house. :) I carefully looked over the green pellets, & my thought was, if it's rodents, I'll find droppings, & I didn't find any. But you know, maybe you're right. I just can't figure it out.

I just wanted to add, I do live in a rural setting and I have a shed with lawnmowers, chainsaws, etc...I've used mouse killer in the shed for years, so I'm familar with the warning signs of mouse problems. But the pellets I use in the shed are brown. Has anyone ever seen green/blue mouse killer pellets?

not sure if its whisker killers but it does look like G- Pig food and such....definately there from a mouse. Get over your high horse clean garage.....those little field mice can crawl flatter than a deck of cards and get threw a quarter sized hole or channel - or smaller :)

wouldn't bother me other than they are in and on the Duc !

Re: What is in my air filter/box? (throttlehead)

I do keep & maintain several traps throughout the garage. I check the traps regularly, and they’ve never been triggered. I know mice can crawl through some pretty small openings. I just can’t figure out how it’s happening. I would think that even Stuart Little himself would mess up once in a while and trigger a trap.

Yes, I keep an open box of the green pellet mouse poison in my attic. Looks just like the stuff you found in your airbox.

From an outsiders perspective it's pretty friggin funny, but I imagine you probably aren't seeing it in the same fashion.

To be perfectly honest, I think it's pretty friggin' funny. My closest neighbor is about 1/8 mile away. Livin' in a Ducati must be prefered, because the mice are humpin' that stuff quite a distance. One of those little buggers probably boasts about their "Italian chalet in the country."

Yep, that's a mouse. There's probably a box of that stuff somewhere around your property, in the attic, basement, or shed or something. Maybe you never bought it, but its there somewhere. Hang a bag of mothballs off the handlebar and they won't be back. I had to swat one off my SS one time before a ride and the little bastard evaded me for 10 minutes. I knew if I didn't get rid of him he'd crawl up my sleeve or something while I was riding and really cause a problem. No problems since I got the mothballs though.

Re: (BLZ2DWL)

Yes, you have a mouse issue. Not to long ago I was servicing my wife's van when I went to check the air filter. The air box was completely filled with dog food. It was a wonder the thing even ran.

Re: (Kennedy)

That stuff looks like D-Con mouse poison, D-Con is green just like that. It might have gotten in there when it was at the dealers? Is this the first time you have looked in the air box?
Damn! I hate freakin Mice!!!!!!
