yea you can crank it up in the couple straights that they have there. Usually 40mph or so in the turns. I've done 10 to 12 runs in a day, and you are smoked after that...

what's up? link not working now? I live like 45 mins from the gap, so nothing big, but i'd like to see a 112mph vid... you need to be videotaped going that fast up there, so you have something for mom and the wife to remember you by...

Re: Re: (matteblackduke)

he only hit 112 like once on one of the "long" straights... Its easy to build speed that fast on a liter bike. besides, you can see all the way through, and you are only going about 40 to 45mph in the turns...

Re: Re: (Earache)

well i dont "know it all" but i do know a number of people do in fact die up there every year and on any given weekend in the spring until mid autumn there will be at least one medevac chopper up there, it's not like a track where there's nice sand to slide into, you fall straight off an 80 foot embankment.. ride the cherohela instead, less cops, less motorcycle traffic.. oh wait, that's where i ride.. on 2nd thought, stick with the gap guys..

As a local, you'd know there's been more deaths on the Skyway than on the Gap. This past year saw the first deaths on the Gap in the last 3 or so years, so there's hardly a "number of people in fact dying up there every year". But I'm sure Medevac goes up a couple of times per month.

The guys in the video weren't riding over their heads, crossing yellow lines to make corners or any of the other dipshit moves you see up there all the time. They were just cruising and taking it easy while riding at a spirited pace that they were comfortable with.

Best riding is on 28 south of 19 - no one goes down that far and little traffic.

Cherohola is my favorite, although 28 is great since they repaved it.

Re: (TnDuc)

well i couldnt see the video b/c of the bandwidth issue so i can't say but.. here's some facts to clear up the subject, taken from tailofthedragon.com:

We have kept an accurate count of the deaths on the Dragon since 1995. The total count is 12., for an average a little better than 1.3 deaths a year. That is too many, but compared to the number of riders who come each year it is very low. We know of no deaths in cars or trucks.

Okay so maybe not "a number of people every year", but 1.3. My point is, take it seriously, it's not a track or a showboat venue. Wear your leathers and don't be like the other 90% of people I see up there wearing t-shirts and jeans and riding past their ability and raising my insurance rates.

Re: (Earache)

Can't see the vid, but I've recorded canyon rides, placing a couple here and have noticed a slight video slow-down effect. Where it really is noticeable is if there is any zoom at all on. This brings things in the distance closer (duh), but of course it still takes awhile to get there.

I have so many mental checklists now when I record, and one of them is "Make sure zoom if completely off". Even then, there's sometimes still a slight slow effect.

I use a little bit of zoom along with a wide angle lens. It also adds a slowing down effect, but the bikes ahead of you look much closer than they do in other vids.

If the lead bike is 25 yards ahead of you, it's hard to see it at all on no zoom. Shows up better on zoom with wide angle.

But the zoom does kill some of the vibration isolation stuff in the camera so it's a bit more jerky.

-------> I'm calling bullshit on that one too.

So 90% of the people up there are wearing jeans and t-shirts and riding over their heads?

I think the gear that they're wearing would be pretty easy to judge, but who is to say who is riding over their heads and who is not?

And these people (the 90% wearing jeans and t-shirts and riding over their heads...) are raising your insurance rates?

To be a relative local, you don't seem to know very much about the place.

Jeff.

Re: (RCFiftyWon)

This is 2004

a westbound Ninja motorcycle driven by a 20-year-old male crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Honda Shadow

was traveling northbound on Calderwood Highway when the 2000 model Harley-Davidson ran off road and hit the mountain.

motorcyclist was killed Saturday in a three-vehicle collision on state Highway 165 in Monroe County, authorities said. Robyn McCrone, 43, died in the 10:56 a.m. crash when her westbound 2003 Honda motorcycle struck the passenger-side door of an eastbound 1998 Lincoln, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatcher.

Eleven reported accidents on the ``Dragon'' last week prompted Saturday's intensive traffic enforcement efforts on U.S. 129

A 24-year-old South Carolina man was killed April 9 when his motorcycle collided with a truck on the ``Dragon.''

The April 9 fatality was the first on the ``Dragon'' since Aug. 4, 2002. Two people died on the ``Dragon'' in 2002 and three in 2001

s Hughes rounded a curve, he apparently lost control. The motorcycle slid on its side into the on-coming traffic lane and underneath a 1995 Ford Ranger truck traveling up the mountain.

okay look.. this is all im trying to say...
JUNE 5-6: Another senseless death on the Dragon this weekend. Michael "Spanky" Terry, age 43, died after leaving the CRoT on his 2003 GSXR 1000 and running into a tree at Wheelie Hell. Many riders get bit here at "show-off hill" as they accelerate beyond their riding ability and then overbrake. No 1 victims ... GSXR1000s and R1s. Please SLOW DOWN - no need to prove anything to anybody
