Thought you might like this, considering your sig line. This is one of Neil Hodgson's engines.

Re: To Phil 998 (AA 996)

Thanks, that is pretty damn cool. What's even more surprising is I coined that saying myself years ago.

I would also like to know?!?!

I am assuming that the AMA05XX has something to do with Ducati motors built for racing in the USA (AMA) for the year of 05.

So far I have seen 02, 10 and 11. Either way its kida cool!

I understand the AMAxxxx serial number-like stampings but the "Paradise City" and "Bring me to Life" I don't understand?

Maybe it's to inject levity into the routines of the mechanics or maybe its code for different stages of development parts being used and various tuning configurations? Or, the guys over in Bologna just like Guns & Roses a lot.

I would almost bet that the stamps are done here in the US, and not in Bologna.

Re: To Phil 998 (superbike2001)

Are those engravings or embossments???

if they are embossments (which they look like to me) then dont they have to be done during the casting process?

engravings = written into the cases
embossments = raised lettering

I would think embossment for structural integrity reasons.

Re: To Phil 998 (MaliciousBraham)

They are simply punched letters and numbers.
We use the punches to mark steel and such.
I think Ill bring a set home and punch AMA 0401 and raise the value of my bike a few grand and possibly gain 40 HP.
