Timing gear question.

Sorry for the easy question but I don't have a parts catalog and limited access to computer and phone. The question is will and two phase 748 timing gear work on a two phase 916 motor? Are the part numbers different. This could be behind the timing gremlins on my race bike. This is the timing gear thats has missing teeth where the rpm sensor picks up the signal to send to the ecu. Thanks for any help.

916 and 748 '95 - '98, st2 '97 and '98.

and, for the really bizarre bit - 600 and 750 monster '98.

Thanks Brad, I am running a 99 748 timing gear in there right now and I think that might be the problem with my 916sps motor. Thanks for the info. Ian

twin pick up with single pick up gears?

Re: (brad black)

single pick up sensor with a single pick up case and flywheel for a 1.6 computer. We changed the it from a p8 to 1.6 and changed the flywheel engine case and timing gear. The only things is we used a timing gear off a 99 748 becuase we thought it was the same as the 916 1.6 ecu one so that might be where the problem lies hopefully. Still working the bugs out of this engine, trouble shooting what we think are timing issues. Do you think the different timing gear would cause this?

I have a timing gear from a 98 that i would trade even for the one from a 99.

the timing gear set numbers will be different from '99 i expect due to crank and alt differences. as long as the pick up is located in the right place and the gap's right it should be fine.
