A friend of Mine posted this on Labusas. Paul is a member of the SAR teams who was at Ground Zero WTC for the rescue efforts after 9/11 This is his story about N.O.

Three days of hell was what it was. Temps in the high 90's with high humidity. All great intentions where immediately meet with hostility. First day traveling from Baton Rouge to Gulf Port was hard. We where stopped numerous times by people blocking the road and demanding to be brought out of the area. Or asking for food or water. A few rocks where thrown at the convoy in certain areas. The sound of rocks hitting the van just made my dog pissed and the people inside uneasy.

The dead where ramped the people just trying to get to dry areas sat like rats after a storm drain flood on anything they could keep dry on. The roads where real bad and we had to boat it then get picked up by others. What made this an unattainable task was COMMUNICATION. Getting in touch with others without satellite phones where impossible. Seen so much looting that you didn't even take notice after a while. Even if you wanted to you could do nothing about it. There where that many looters. We came across an apartment building for assisted living adults that had a fire on the upper floors and had to evacuate them. We then had no way of transporting those people. Had to leave them there on the street. Night fall came and the constant shoots where heard. Some far away Some close. Bravous is trained to turn on to gun fire so it was a sleepless night. We slept outside the trucks to protect ourselves from anything that may have come out of the darkness.

My team was made out of three suburbans, and two 12 pass. vans. We had three sheriffs with small arms and one M-16 for protection. This was not enough for what the nigh had. Fires where seen all over the area at night. Sunrise could not come to early for us. we reported the going ons back to IC and was told it was all isolated incidents. Yeah right. We where in the field they where back in a nice safe area.

Day two we got into gulf port and the devastation was beyond belief we assisted helio evacs of people and tried to assist any trapped people we came across. I came across an old white man in a second floor room in a house that had diabetes. He was bed ridden. He flipped a little when Bravous went into room when we where checking the house. He threw his bed pan filled with piss at Bravous. Great now I poured my water ration on him and cleaned him with some saline solution. I had to carry the guy down the stairs. He had shit in his pajamas. He cried when they cleaned him up and thanks us and apologized for getting scared when he seen Bravous. He said he though Bravous was a wild dog and came to feed on him. The Coast Guard fly boys picked him up.

We continued on checking debris and houses for trapped people. All the time people asking us for supplies. information we had no answers to. Everyone wanting help. But help they could do themselves. We where there for the ones that can't help themselves. The trapped, sick, or medical attention people. The people that had no physical problems where told to make it out and head north where trucks with supplies could not get in do the flooding. Got back to the trucks just before sunset. AND FOUND MY PERSONAL DOG BAG MISSING. Bitches stole Bravous' supplies and his my personal shit. Lost $1400 bucks in that bag INCLUDING MY CAMERA. Now I have a problem no food for the dog. His water supply his hygiene and medical supplies are gone. This pissed me the fuck off and started looking at these people in a whole new light.

That night we had more of the same shit. People coming out of the darkness looking for food and water. I was giving Bravous my food and water so I had nothing to offer. One fucking prick saw me feed Bravous a can of tuna fish and said that animals don't eat before people. I said you want it you take it form him. Just then some gun fire went off real close by. It was DARK. Didn't know who shot or at what. I tackled the guy and Bravous came in for the bite but he was tied up and could reach the guy. One of the Chris one of the sheriff officers came and pulled the guy up and separated us. He was pissed but I didn't know if he was armed and was acting irrational enough to warrant his take down. The sheriff patted him down and sent his on his way as Bravous kept drooling for the bite.

Now it is on. About four something AM Bravous lets out a grumble as I lay slightly asleep against the van wheel. Several black guys two with shot guns the rest had side arms came out of the darkness. The Sheriff gave then some water and toilet paper. They asked what food we had and took three jars of peanut butter. And walked off in the darkness. The sheriffs later said we are not going to get into a fire fight that we could not win. Day light came and they decided things are way out of hand and we report back. On the way back we meet up with four Nation guards in a six wheeler. They said they are going to escort us out. We came across this town that had cars blocking the road. I was in the fourth vehicle looking out at why we stopped. Two of the Guards men got out to move the unoccupied vehicles. No keys so the six wheeler moved them. As we where pulling away shots hit the six wheeler the second vehicle and the last vehicle. Two of the guards men returned fire shooting high in the air as we floored it out of there.

FUCK THESE PEOPLE. I am sitting here unarmed nothing to do but lay low. We are in FEMA marked vehicles and these fucks are shooting at us. I want to drive but they won't let me. If I was driving I would run most of the fucks in the street down. I am so pissed at the people down there that I hope they all fucking die.

One thing about other disasters I have seen is that people cam together and helped each other. There where isolated acts of kindness but on the most part what I seen was something out of a war scene. Not sure if this si a southern Black thing but I will not go back and help them. As far as I am concerned let the floating corpse feed these fucks. Let then drink the disease stagnate water and die a slow death.

Those where not people those where something subhuman form the bellows of the earth. Someone wrote on another thread that these people are Suppressed. Yeah I would suppress them with motor fire. I hope our state guys fire on these fucks and fuck them into the swamps where the alligators can eat their asses.

It is going to take me some time to forget what asses those people where. They fucked me and I owe them one.

God bless the militarty boys going in to clean up the rats

Damn! What is the average IQ in that area?

These people demand help, yet they shoot at help when it arrives.

:wtf
It's not the IQ. It's the lack of education and abundant poverty. New Orleans has been this bad for years, just now the curtians are pulled back and the national media gets to see first hand what we have been saying for years. The people with even modest means got the hell out. These are not the upperclass of New Orleans.

Don't just blame the South for this. Remember South Central LA...and that was over a court verdict.

Puuuuuke! Barf! Gag! I do that in this neck of the woods. Those temps! In the water! Positively nasty! I can already smell and taste it! They gotta be getting ripe! Bloated and ready to pop! Slow cooked with the meat falling off the bones! This calls for thermonuclear devices. What an awesome place to be a hungry fly!
The whole mess looks like some third world country. Or is it?

that is one F#$#$'dup story, but really not difficult to imagine. I only went to NewOrleans once, drove there on the bikes from NYC via Texas. There is a stange vibe in that town, sort of "dark" overall, and felt very "south". When society breaks down like that, its whoever has the guns and is willing to do harm that has the power, not a place for "humans"...When it comes down to it people can be super primal, and very dangerous. What the hell is wrong the local government there, they should all be fired! I cant believe that all authority has vanished there. I lived downtown nyc during sept 11 (horrific view from my apt) and after that sh#$t happened the city went into total lockdown within a few hours, no one in or out, basic maritial law. Its just difficult to understand how the folks who run that town didnt have a plan for what happened. I thought they have been predicting a direct hurricane impact scenrio for awhile???? :wtf

The locals are all blaming the feds.

Like everything else these days, it's all a political blame game.

This is a catastrophe, the words "republican" or "democrat" shouldn't play a part in any of this.

Not to find a scapegoat or anything, but the local government definitely dropped the ball in this tragedy. It sounds like total chaos down there. It is hard for any of us to imagine what is going through these peoples minds. I would imagine it be like the movie 'Red Dawn'. Surviving is the only thing that matters. I am sure most of the poverty stricken down there already felt that they were owed something. Now is just their opportunity to take what they feel has been owed to them. (Before you flame, I dont feel this is the right approach)

I could imagine their frustration. No food, no water, but yet you see helicopters flying above all day long. It would almost be like being stuck in a war zone surrounded by 'Charlie' and not having food, water, communications, but yet seeing friendlies flying over you all day long, them seeing you and not stopping. It has got to be a hard situation.

We had help to the Tsunami victims much quicker than we had help to these people. I think the Director of FEMA has alot of explaining to do. I am sure if help arrived sooner, this situation would not be what it is now. It doesn't make it right for these people to be doing the things they are doing, but I cant help but to think of the frustration that they must be living through.

you make it sound as if the people that run the town are still there......hardly.

those folks are long gone and out of Dodge.....

the ones left are mostly the ones that are stranded or CAN'T get out. it's definitely a survival issue now......if i was stuck on a highway overpass with my wife, daughter, and a gun, you can bet sweet Jesus, that i'd rob you blind, if it was to feed my family to help them survive.

CHAOS isn't the word here. this is as basic and animal as it gets. most people won't allow themselves to imagine what this kind behavior is like, or what it's like to be subjected to it.....

Yeah, I know where this guy is coming from. I might not have seen what he has gone through, but have the same feelings.

These dumb-fucks who are doing all this looting and shooting are the scum of Louisiana,,,in my eyes. They are the retards who were to fuck'n stupid to get out when told to. Then just stand around waiting for someone to hold their hand and walk them out. HELLO!!! They should have started walking before the storm ever hit! I live in Louisiana, and we are feeling these same feelings. We have opened up our communities to help people out and what do we get. Dumb-fucks that came up, car jacking, stealing, and looting our communites. And now the one's that are now coming out of NO are being placed all over and guess what,,,,they are going to be the worst ones of all,,,,to fuck'n dumb to leave. Now, I'm not talking about he ones who couldn't physically get out on their own....I'm talking about he fucking dope and drug heads who didn't want to leave, because in their minds, they can't leave their drug source....Then after the storm hit, and there was no one standing on the corner selling anymore,,,,these sad SOB's are trying to get to the drugs in hospitals,,,,and then the hospitals have to lock down,,,,not letting any one in or out. JUST FUCK'N SAD!!! I have no simpathy for these type of people.

But don't think that all of Louisiana is like this,,,it's not. NO is a bad town! I never have liked that place,,,,never went there unless had to drive through to get to work. I say they should cut off all roads and supplies to any one left in NO,,,and just let them waste away. If they were to dumb to get out when told to,,,they are to dumb to survive! Right now, it feels as if the whole state is on edge due to all the crimes being committed. You feel as if you can't trust anyone. And that in itself if just plain sad.

This is what the Director of FEMA had to say...

"Unfortunately, that's going to be attributable a lot to people who did not heed the advance warnings," Brown told CNN. "I don't make judgments about why people chose not to leave but, you know, there was a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans," he said.

I'd like to know what he would do if he was in New Orleans and had no car or no money for gas or no money a place to stay outside of New Orleans...how would he get out?

The mayor of New Orleans is still in the area and he's pissed. GO Here and listen to the interview (the first link in the story...'Hear the mayor vent his frustration in this video -- 12:09')

First, I'd like to say,,,that NYC did a good job after what happened in 9/11. It's still hard to believe that it happened.

But, duc_748,,,here is a scenario to think about (This is just made up here),,,,,IF you knew the planes were coming, not just two,,,but enough to hit every building in NYC. You and the other smart people,,,,get the hell out of the city. And try to find refuge in surrounding towns. All the dumb-fucks and people planning on looting stay. Then WHAM! Every building is hit by a plane. There is pretty much no more city left,,,some places gone totally, some not. Now, more people are trying to get out of NYC and head to surrounding towns, plus the looting starts,,,,,Now you have the majority of NYC now spread all over New York State. Everyone has no job, no home, can't even go home. And now the looting spreads through out your state.

This is pretty much what happend in NO, but with flood waters. I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but the city of NO is actually under sea level.

The Mayor said that over 100,000 people in N.O. have no cars and rely on public transportation, if only half of them used the public transit to evacuate it would have taken 6 days to evacuate them.

The criminals get all of the headlines but the victims are the majority and it will only get worse.

I am so sorry I can do nothing more then to send the money I allready have.

So are you including all of the children, elderly, and other people that are stuck in NO ATM? You know those are the MAJORITY of the people still left in NO. Yes there are drugees and thugs there, but they are BY FAR the MINORITY. I know its probably hard for you to imagine life without ducatis, cash and other nice things...but try. Imagine you got a paycheck the week or two weeks before the hurricane hit. You spend your paycheck on the usual things a person does (bills, food, etc). But then a week or two later a hurricane is coming. You don't have the means to leave. (either you don't have a car or no gas money, etc) If you did you would be gone, no problem, but you don't have the means and noone is offering any other options (other than the superdome, which was one of the dumbest idea I have heard of in a while) so your stuck. You make it through the hurricane but then the leavy breaks and you have to find some high ground in a city that is 7 feet or so below sea level. You find some, but you have no supplies. The police tell you to loot the stores for food, so you do. After a day all of the food in the stores is either bad or gone so you are waiting for supplies. Then you wait another day, then another...all while some dumbasses are making the situation worst by robbing people. Finally some aid arrives (today), maybe you will finally make it through.

With the statement you made above, you sound more like the scum of Louisiana than most of the people trying to survive in NO.

Denial

I heard (but it might not be accurate) that when the mandatory evacuation was ordered hundreds of buses were dispatched to N.O. People refused to leave. The buses left empty prior to landfall. But again this might not be true.

What is true is that the hurricane was a CAT 1 when it hit South Florida. It built up pretty quickly and then smashed into N.O. as (I believe) only the third CAT 5 in recorded history to hit the USA mainland.

Their families survived other hurricanes; they probably figured they'd make it through this one too. They were wrong. It was bigger.

We've known something like this would eventually happen in that coastal area. We'll probably see a nuke detonated in one of our major cities some day too.

It 'aint always easy, but life goes on...
