Smrz is switching bikes mid-season. Starting at Brno he will ride the RSV4. Highly unusual to switch this time of the year (can't think of another example actually).

I actually though Smrz had a good shot at replacing Haga if he leaves Ducati after this year. Has Ducati's domination with supplying private teams ended?

To be fair Smrz tested the BMW and the Aprilia before deciding on the V4...
I think privateers and even race teams are looking to race the new V4 next
year... I predict Ten Kate will decide to switch to Aprilia or maybe BMW...
BMW just homologated a new crank and it maybe a droner replacing the old
status quo screamer...

It's exciting time for us because WSBK is host to the battle between the Droners and the Screamers only one shall win... place your bets...

^ No way the new BMW crank is a big or long bang ; this would require a complete redesign of the drivetrain .

Is Fester re-writing the rules of physics again? lol
No, he's just switched focus from the old arguments and pictures of "V" vs. "I" motors to "droners vs. screamers" as if they are somehow related.

So back on topic....I don't recall anyone switching bikes mid season either. Hopefully the Aprilia will work for him. It's clearly a strong package.

Team Pata B&G Racing, run jointly by Marco Borciani and Mirco
Guandalini, thinks the Aprilia RSV4 is the best machine... maybe
Ducati should switch to the big bang V4 next year and get their
customer back???

We really wanted to reach this deal - Borciani and Guandalini explained -
and we are confident that as a result of this collaboration, we will be able
to give Smrz the best machine in Superbike based on the standings. The
transition will not be easy, but we are working very hard in order to be at
our best at Brno in three days time. I'm sure this change will also be
exciting for our rider, who has been slowed down by technical issues lately
despite all of his hard work.”

Didn't Muggeridge switch teams/bikes after his team went under a few years back?
I think he may have switched teams but continued to ride the Honda Fireblade.

I remember Frankie Chili swapping from the 999 back to the 998 in maybe 2003.

Chili's bike was a hybrid IIRC, ex-factory 998 chassis with a newer 999rs motor. It must have irked Ducati to see him winning on what appeared to be an old bike when they were trying to sell the 999.

Their customer? I'd suggest that you're looking in the wrong place.
