Is there an easy way to tell if a SS frame has been replaced under warranty if the seller doesn't know. Would a dealer be able to look it up with the VIN?

Well, if it has a crack in it, it was not replaced

Shoot me the VIN at [email protected] and I will check it out.

I am going to call and interogate them tomorrow.

the importer should have a full history of all warranty claims made against that vin.

ours are easy to tell because we get the vin engraved by hand locally on the new frame - very obvious.

Wouldn't you WANT an older SS frame replaced with an SS/FE frame under warranty?

You need to have photos to compare, but the headstock is welded differently (at the crossmember) and the frame decal (the black one, separate from the emissions decal) is just a sticker on the SS/FE frame as opposed to being riveted onto the frame near the headstock on the older SS frames.

When you receive a new frame from Ducati they have your original serial numbers in place. There should be no change with the VIN. In the case of the 900SS frames we have seen replaced, Ducati supplies a 98 model year frame regardless of the year you are trying to replace

I think you're reading too much into my question. Sure, I'd prefer that it was already replaced but I still want to know how to positively identify it and I don't think the current owner will have a clue.

The sticker VIN tag clue is a good one.

Thanks for your thoughts but the bike was already sold. I hope the buyer got it CHEAP.
