there are a # of different makers now of the lithium ferrous batteries, and they certainly are much lighter than stock or any standard battery for most modern sportbikes. you can run an 8 cell in the rc if your not really going to expose it to temps below 40f, otherwise its better to go with a 12cell. i recently picked up a 12 cell that im waiting til spring to install (no sense exposing it to the cold weather if i dont need to). i picked mine up from Maviryk Design - Race Batteries and he hooked me up good.
just realized that the shorai batteries are lithium ion, not lithium ferrous. i really dont know about the lithium ferrous batteries.
I haven't heard anything about the battery and didn't want to spend the money if it wasn't worth it. Just curious. I have one of the heavy OEM batteries and was looking to save some weight.
I think almost all LiPo (Lithium Ion)cells inside the batt come from "the people's republic of china" no matter what brand you take.
The main difference between the battery's are probably the charging circuits inside the battery.
I think it's worth a try... :wtf for this money. almost a lead acid batt. price.
7,3Lbs weight save for this money is awesome, this must be weight saving mod no.1!!
I'll be waiting for the charger to arrive and then order a set.
I have a home made Lithium Ion battery in my RC. I have never had a problem both track and street. We used a 36 volt DeWalt battery back to make it.

Haven't had a problem. Lots of people are using them and not having a problem.

As far as the cost goes I picked a bunch of them for about $54 a pack. We can make two bike batteries out of one pack.

they are pricey for the 12cell's, but they certainly weigh a hell of a lot less than stock, and they should outlast a stock battery by far also. there are many manufacturers of the lithium ferrous batteries nowadays, you can google search them.
I am a dealer for the original Speed Cells from Josh who is an RC51 guy.

I can hook up the SZ guys on one, just PM me.

And yes, the Speed Cells are a bit more than some of the newer ones coming out in the last year or so but I believe they are worth it.

One of the big problems with the other makers is they are using counterfeit A123 cells, they all come from China and even Josh is having some issues getting his hands on the real deal, others guys have bought knock off cells without knowing, and some have had issues with them (counterfeit stuff in China, who knew? ;) )

This article is from the battery university; the 4.30v is just an example cell type...
Charging lithium-ion batteries

What happens if a battery is inadvertently overcharged? lithium-ion is designed to operate safely within their normal operating voltage but become unstable if charged to higher voltages. When charging above 4.30V, the cell causes plating of metallic lithium on the anode; the cathode material becomes an oxidizing agent, loses stability and releases oxygen. Overcharging causes the cell to heat up. If left unattended, the cell could vent with flame..
Thanks for the info. I have you on my facebook now. You have some really nice parts that I'm interested in. Just have to get the wife on board with my purchaces.

For the money you spend and the weight you save you cant beat it. Name any other mod you can do that will shave that much weight. Besides going on a diet.
You could buy some $3,000 BST Carbon Fiber rims, but like you said, for the money, it's the best bargain. Hopefully I can get the charger and battery for a good deal.

Sometimes its better to throw a wife overboard when doing purchaces:wacky
they are just another brand selling the same stuff. I had never even heard of them until you posted their name.

There are tons of fake a123 cells for sale, just take a look on ebay. At least when you buy a dewalt pack and make your own, you know for a FACT that you are getting the real deal. As a bonus you get to save quite a few dollars and you might even find an excuse to buy a new tool or two.

Don't waste your money buying something that takes maybe an hour to do yourself. Do some research and find which dewalts use the new (green) cells and not the old (white) cells. The white ones aren't as good. There isn't anything wrong with them, the green ones are just newer and are better.

For only $175 I lost about 145lbs off my bike. (Non-contested divorce :p ) Sounds like a mod I'm going to look in to.

The other good thing about dewalt packs is they already have a overload protection built into them.
