Does anyone have an idea how to ship large, bulky bodywork without excess costs? I am attempting to ship race upper and lower, but the box exceeds the dimensions necessary to get competitive rates based on weight (i.e. it's light-ish but bulky, so gets bumped to the heavy weight rates, based on overall girth). :wtf

Any ideas...

When I get my bodywork from Woodcraft it comes in a huge ass box...but the shipping costs aren't crazy (maybe $30...UPS) and I still get $100 off the stuff???

I remember shipping an upper/lower in one huge box and it cost me over $100 to ship the fairings. I recommend shipping the pieces individually in smaller boxes. That should reduce the shipping costs.

When was the last time you got bodywork shipped from them? It was cheaper for me to drive to them then it was to ship it including gas and time spent. Rates have gone sky high within the last year.

Yes Ben, Shipping race bodywork and fairings panels is painful and expensive plus packing them properly takes time.
One way I have got around the "volume weight" calculation thing is to make the package an odd shape so that the volume cannot be accurately measured thus calculated and the post office here then charge postage on the actual weight of the package.

Got a box so big with bodywork it would not fit thru the front door.

Cardboard box weighed more than the CF Bodywork.

I used the peanuts to ship all the OEM Bodywork across the world.

I forget what Eric said to ship it but I got a good laugh and told him I would see him in a couple of hours. I want to say it was close to 75 just to get it to the shop in Bellingham.

It's a been a few years, but I shipped whitewater kayaks for 35-50 terminal-to-terminal via Pilot Air Freight (trucking).

Just make sure you crate it up well!

And the verdict....

It cost $50 to ship a humongo box weighing 50 #s... about 10 days (maybe a few more) and seemed to arrive unscathed.

Overall, would use the service again if needed. A little slow, but if you aren't in a hurry for BIG shit, worked out well!

I shipped an upper and a lower in a Uhaul wardrobe box. Cut the top down a bit and filled it with popcorn. Wrapped each piece in a towel to prevent scratching.
You can do it easy if you're willing modify the box yourself. 30 to 40 bucks a few years ago.
