Im looking at getting a Ducati, I sat on a 749Dark, and a S2RDark. According to Ducati's website the seat height is lower on the 749, but I felt lower on the S2R (feet were flatter) Am I imaginng this? and a second question Being 5'10 and big should I look elsewhere for my first bike

Re: seat height question (chunkysoup)

chunkysoup from WI. lay off the brats and cheese curds dude.
just kidding. the 749 may be wider at the midsection than the S2R. so the actual top of the seat may be the same height but the 749 may splay your thighs wider? or the specs could be some goomba's wild ass guess like the weights listed.
ducs make an ok 1st bike if you have the cashola to maintain them. they require a little more fiddling than the average Asian in line 4 and they have some quirks. if you seek perfection right from the box look elsewhere. if you want something with a soul (that can get dark on you from time to time) then you've come to the right place. i've owned many motorcycles in my 40 years but none makes me feel like the Hotrod M944.

Re: seat height question (mikeinwi.)

That thing is sick! Have you ever added up how much you have into it? Would probably depress me and I am a fellow junkie too!

Re: (chunkysoup)

any bike you can afford and are happy with can be a good 1st bike. be careful and don't try the shit you see in the magazines the 1st day or week. if you're smart you'll be ok. if you have no control of yourself then by a used dual purpose bike and flail around on it. just make sure you are comfortable on it and know how to use it. take an MSF course. they have them in Appleton. not sure where you are.

Re: seat height question (Busamouse)

did you get a $10.00 off coupon for your 1st bypass with that? where in upstate NY did you have a brat? are you sure it wasn't an Eyetalian sausage pretending to be a brat. "hey, look at me. i'm a friggin brat, fuggedaboutit."
i think you know i'm from there and can speak from experience.

Re: seat height question (mikeinwi.)

It was a butcher block item.
They were whitish in color.
I boiled em in Coors and threw em on the grill.

Re: seat height question (Busamouse)

they would hang your ass for that in WI. but in upstate NY it's allowable. if any boiling of wurst is to occur it is to be in Old Style or Old Milwaukee. we'll let you slide this time. normally they soak brats in beer then grill them. pretty good stuff.
i'm getting hungry...

check out my post on how to lower your Duc. It may help you decide to buy the bike you really want.
