RC wheels vs CBR wheels

I have seen where the guys are putting RC wheels on their cbr's. Yes they look good.
Why not put the cbr wheels on the RC?
Three spoke wheels are easier to check air pressures on.
They are lighter.
Is this just a prefrence?
Is there any real advantages to putting RC wheels on a cbr?
Would there be and real advantages to putting cbr wheels on a RC?

I think the CBR guys are going for a look more than anything else. I like a 5 or 6 spoke wheel over a 3 spoke from a fashion standpoint. If the 3 are lighter and you are going to track the rc then go for it if not why bother? Personaly I prefer a y spoke style wheel carozzeria or pvm to be specific.

From what I have seen the RC is kinda the workhorse of the track.
I do see a lot of people wanting to shed weight, and it just seems
like the cbr wheels would be a start.
I really like the 5 spoke wheels also.

If anyone knows right off, do the older cbr wheels interchange?
The 04-07 CBR1000RR wheels are a direct fit. You have to use the RC51 spacers for the rear, but it is a bolt on from what I understand. RC51/SP2 wheels are so damn expensive, that I will look for a set of CBR1K wheels for trackday tires. I think some 929/954 rear wheels will fit too, but not sure.

I like the look of the 5-spokes more too, but cheap and lighter is better!
04-07 wheels

Thats what I understand. There was a thread at some other board.

I would be curious about the older wheels also.
04-10 cbr wheels are the lightest oem production rims on the street period..

You forgot to mention they are the only lightweight OE wheels that won't get knackered in a year... ;)

I'm pretty sure the front axle size is different for the 04-07 1000RR and RC51. I've bolted the following directly up to my street bike and also have a spare pair I'll be using for rain tires at the track. (Using RC51 spacers)

Watskooo is correct. The RC shares the same bearings with the 600rr. However, the 1krr runs a larger front axle and require bigger ID bearings. So if using the 1krr front rim you will need to use the RC bearings and inner spacer/sleeve, as well as the RC outer spacers.

The following list is for all the same diameter rear axles which means there is no need to swap bearings. There may be later years that also are the same size, but i am not certain on this. Only putting down what i know for fact. Chances are the later years would continue this trend, yet to be sure you'll want to confirm this with a dealer or having someone take a first hand measurement for you of the bike/year in question.

00-06 RC
03-06 600rr
04-07 1000rr
Ok if they are lighter, then by how much? Someone who has both should weigh them for us all.

Ahhh, thanks Varium and Watskooo. I thought the front & rear were both direct swaps from the 1KRR. Thank you for clearing up the detail of the bearings in the front.
Thanks for the great info

I hope to do the cbr wheels this year for track only.:rockon
