Question I've had for years now. Why do most of the racers (roadrace) keep their helmet vents closed even when it's really hot? Ex: AMA at Barber this wkend- racers interviewed on start line- all had vents shut.
Heck, I can't seem to get enough air (all vents open) during trackdays!!

They lock them down for the race (my Arai takes two hands to do it properly) hoping that the ventilation built into the helmet will keep them cool once moving. I've seen a guy have a shield flip up at 120+ and it looked like it could have broken his neck.

I cant believe you were looking that hard to see if their vents were open or closed. Either you were watching the race in a movie theater or you had your face right up to the tv.

How hard do I have to look? Jason Pridmore had the microphone right at the front vents to interview them before the race....and it's in HD!!
