Found this in my local CL motorcycle section: 2000 Honda RC51

I Googled for the 929 tail light mod and didn't find much of anything about someone doing this. It's a crappy pic, but I've seen a picture of the 929 tail light so I'm wondering if he modded his tail section to recess that light up in there??

Secondly, what the hell happened to the top of the LCD cluster? Looks like someone pointed a blow torch at it....I've heard about melting clusters but a search on here for 118-some results for 'melt' were mostly about body work, wires, etc. His windscreen looks like a tinted stock version.....are there certain screens that cause that or will just direct sunlight on the cluster itself melt that??? I'm kind of concerned about mine now (which hasn't melted!).

They will melt if you leave them in direct sunlight. Some say that it only happens with the double bubble screens, some say they have to have a sharp crease, some say they don't. Either way, they DO melt some-way some-how. I'm not sure if there has ever been a scientific study done on how to properly melt a RC51's gauge housing. Honda fixed the issue in '04 by adding a metal piece that slips over the stock housing. You can do the same by adding a carbon cover if you like.

That bike does look a lot like one that was on here. I swear it was a 954 tail light, but I could be wrong. Pretty sure it was in the image gallery in the 40 pages of "what's your RC51 look like" have fun with that cause I ain't lookin'

My '04 has what seems like an overlay around the edge of the LCD screen, but it feels/sounds like a plastic one rather than a metal one unless it's really really thin metal. I can't tell. The picture of the LCD in the CL ad doesn't show his trip button on the left, and I can tell or not if mine matches his because this plastic/metal overal piece creates a raised border around the right side of that button.

Also, which user is Ben? Sorry, I don't know many first names here for people!

Thanks for the info on the other pictures. I took a look at those and now I remember seeing that bike in the gallery-- you also were the guy who had those headlight eye brows on there which were pretty cool looking, IMHO.

I'm actually not looking to mod in a 954 tail, but I had never seen that before so I presented it here to see what people knew about it. Now I got my answer! Nice work on that thing! I've got an '04 with a Hotbodies tail to it. Not bad, but I may do something else in the future.

Was that LCD melted like that when you owned the bike yet? Taking a closer look between the CL pic and my own LCD I guess mine does have the extra piece that goes around the border of it. I don't see an extra bevel on the edges of the one in the picture like what I have. I guess I won't worry about it too much now.

Yes it melted from the double bubble I put on the bike, which is now on my 03.

The fit on that undertail is better than anything I've seen come from the big companies. Props on the nice work.
Thank you, I kinda regret not swappin that over to my 03.:(
