Just looking to get an idea of what a clean title 9xx frame would go for. I'm thinking about my first build. trying to get some info. (wife wants to know how much it will cost her)
I purchased an untitled one from Dan's Ducati Superstore (Dan Elsis) or something close to that on ebay for $900. He had a titled 916 for $1500 if I remember correctly. Everything seemed to be legit.
Re: Price check on 9xx clean title frames. (Redisfaster)
The only difference that I have noticed on the 998 is where the coils mount (its on the side, not toward the center of the frame a bit different); and the bottom exhaust bolt, I think its a bit higher then my old 748 was (not to sure about this one).
Re: Price check on 9xx clean title frames. (Redisfaster)
We put a 996 engine in the 916 frame no problems. Not sure about the 998 frame. He threw in the bearings and "eccentric." I have an extra swingarm laying around if you need it. Six pack of imported beer and a porno mag will do
anyone know what the differance is w/ the 998 frame then? if I'm building, I might want to go for a 998 engine. I would prefer not to have to do any frame mod yet. Maybe on the next build.
Unless you have a big pile of parts or a big pile of money building your bike from parts is going to cost you way more then it would to buy one done or near done. Why do you think there are so many Ducati parts for sale? Because a lot of people part their bikes out rather then sell them in one piece to get more of their money back. The spread sheet on my 1036 is near 100k I would gladly sell at 50k and this is the rule not the exception. I hear about guys putting 20k to 40k in a track bike and are darn lucky to get half. If you just want a cool street bike buy a 998 for 10k sell what you don't want and add what you do or better yet buy on all ready modified you will save a bunch of money. If you really want the ultimate Tamburini style bike mine weighs 342lbs and makes 150HP.
The lower bar allows for the shower injectors large airbox! Some of the 748 frames didn't have the adjustable head stock, as well as steel sub-frames. All can be swapped out.
You'd be wise to listen to Alex's fine and gentle words of sage wisdom!
This guy has gone through more bike projects in the last five year, than I have gone through girl friends! He Speaks the truth!
I guess the main reason for build instead of buy, is that I don't have 10k or even 5k to put in a bike right from the start. I currently have a 2000 900ss, and the wife isn't big on letting me spend a large amount at once for what I want. So I'm going at it the sneaky way and building what I want.
I was looking at it also but I'm not risking it.. One is from Greece was a no reply from any emails sent to that eBay user... Also the one in MD was the same ... No response!??!?
Check with your DMV see if you can get a constructors title. Typically you buy all the parts show receipts and apply for a title. You don't need a title for the frame any salvage title or receipt will do. They will run a title search and if it is stolen well you're out of luck. I still say if money is an issue your going about it the wrong way. Nice clean 916s can be had for $6000 no way your going to build anything for that kind of money.
it's not really the "total" cost that I'm worring about. I could put 15k into it I'm sure by the end. (if not twice that) It's just hard to get the wife to let me buy something like that outright with another duk in the garage now, and I don't want to sell what I've got just to get another.
