Keep in mind that the bikes have not been changed that much in the past couple of model years, ZX-10 excepted for 2011. Basically, is a 2011 bike that much better than a 2009 bike? In the vast majority of cases I would say no. Not one bit.

Keep in mind these are the cheapest I found on cycletrader, better deals may be found elsewhere. OTOH, these are also all over the country and may be logistically impossible to be in Bangor, ME and travel to pick up a bike in Pheonix. So on top of dealer freight and setup ($500?) you also have $400 or so to ship the bike to you. Better deals may be closer even though they are not the absolute lowest price. Also, these are asking prices but I would imagine also firm. Lastly, supporting your local dealer has merit, I personally would pay a small premium (maybe $500) to buy from my local dealer, but that only goes so far. I know the local Yamaha dealer but would I pay his $11k asking price for a leftover '09 R1? No way. We're freinds, but not that good of frirends.

After doing this exercise here is what I conclude:
1) Leftover bikes seem to decline about 10-12% per year compared to the MSRP of the current year (in other words a 2008 would be 30-36% less than MSRP of a 2011 model).

2) The cost of a leftover 2008-09 600 class supersport should start with a "7". Period.

3) The cost of a leftover 2008 liter superbike should be around $8-9000. 2009 maybe a bit more.

4) Suzuki still has an absolute boatload of leftover GSXRs even though they didn't bring any 2010 models into the US. Other Japanese manufacturers are not much better off.

5) Great deals can be had on "entry level" bikes if you look around. A new full size motorcycle in 2011 for under $5000? Very possible.

6) The remaining glut of new heavily discounted bikes must be severely depressing used bike prices, and should do so for some time. A guy asking $8500 for his used 2008 GSXR1000 is dreaming. Try $6000. Or $5000. Does that shiny $14k 2011 superbike really look that attractive if you basically give away your old still-scary-fast bike?

for edification i bought by 2009 monster edition 6r at the end of jan 2009 for $6800 OTD. brand new, 0 miles and they had like 10 at the time.

i had no intention of getting another bike as i had and still have a 10R and RC51, but couldnt pass up the deal. it is now going to be my dedicated track bike since i put it down a few months ago at summit point.

Probably the best deal was a year ago, a dealer near me had 2008 CBR1000RRs available for $7299 with no setup fees. 0% financing from Honda at the time if that was important to the buyer. I probably should have bought one, that promotion basically cleaned out the leftover 2008 models and 2009 Hondas are in the $9k range today.

Winter is definitely the best time to buy. In November 2002 I bought my only brand-new bike, a 2002 Triumph Daytona, for $7800 + sales tax. retail on the bike was like $11k, but since it wasn't competitive on the spec sheet with an R1 or GSXR, few wanted it.

Wish I would have kept that bike, honestly I liked it better overall than the 999 I bought to replace it.

you realize those Cycle Trader ads aren't for new bikes right? That KTM RC8 has 2k miles on it.

I think that is the only one, I missed that one. Link removed. There was a Concours demo I also removed. If you find others I have no doubt you will let us know as your contribution.

If anyone wondered how seasonal bikes are, check out the updated spring prices on these bikes from my original posts. Some of these possibly had incentives that have since expired and the dealer price included this, who knows. Many are no longer listed on cycletrader, I assume they have sold or the ad expired. These links are exactly the same as they were 3 months ago in the dead of winter.
