Re: Nitrogen and tires. (Buckelew)
So if I put a big truck tire in my garage and keep it filled with air, it becomes a Buckelew Nitrogen Generator that I can use to fill my bike tires for the track. COOL!
Re: Nitrogen and tires. (Phil 998)
Have anybody tried Helium ?
It will make it lighter. Faster ?
Re: Nitrogen and tires. (johnnymotocros)
Boom!!!!!
I have run it
We carry a bottle of nitrogen in our race trailer. We have back to back tested against compressed air.....no real differance in build up or tire temps. we use the bottle of nitrogen to power air tools if needed. We use a small electic compresser at the track which is hooke up to a small homemade air drying system. we always use that compressor on our race tires so the build up remains consitant. When we get new tires mounted they are purged of the old air an air from our system is put in, we try an shoot for 4-5 pounds of build up front and rear during a 8 lap sprint

Yep, it's the water vapor that's the issue with regular old air, not the oxygen. Which brings to mind the question, why not use dry air instead of dry nitrogen, since dry air is around 80% nitrogen anyways. It may have to do with processing advantages (i.e. cost).
Re: Nitrogen and tires. (JeffKoch)
I for one have never had a set of tires last long enough to have a problem due to the water vapor in the air.
Re: Nitrogen and tires. (Shibbydevil)
I realize that there are technical differences, but isn't all this answering a question that really doesn't exsist? Kinda mental masterbation.

lol
Oxygen won't burn, nor will helium. Hydrogen burns good, particularly when mixed with the O2.
I’m all over Marks Nitrogen generator!
Re: (NC Rick)
My friend supplies all the air gas for the Long Beach Grand Prix. Nitrogen is used in racing because of the lack of moisture, the predictable pressure change or lack thereof, and the fact that it will not blow up trackside.

That would be HYDROGEN.

Exactly my thoughts also.
After 1 kilo of grapes
I think I could raise [raisin] 31 psi

My friend is convinced that nitrogen is the way to go for his 900ss ie road bike. Personally i check the tyre pressures each time i go out, so i cannot see it would make much difference for road use.
