Iran's state media are denying reports that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was targeted in a grenade attack Wednesday.
Conservative website khabaronline.ir said Mr. Ahmadinejad escaped unharmed when the blast occurred as his convoy was traveling in the western region of Hamedan. Reuters and Al-Arabiya also called the incident an attack on the Iranian leader and cited a source in Mr. Ahmadinejad's office.
However, state-run Press TV said no attack took place.
Iran's Fars news agency said a firecracker was set off to cheer the president in Hamedan and that one person has been arrested.
State media say Mr. Ahmadinejad traveled to Hamedan for his third visit to the region in an effort to launch projects that would "meet local people's needs."
