I purchased a 1975 goldwing w/14,000 miles and need to get it to Illinois, have queried this post regarding shipping said m/c, but I have less in it than the cost of shipping...no, I cannot ride it there...it is to be a gift for a friend...Has any one had any experience with trailer hitch mounted "caddys"? These are half-moon shaped cages that fit into a trailer hitch and the front wheel of the bike is strapped to it...well?...and thanks

Re: motorcycle "caddys" (mgv7sport)

What kind of estimate did you get for shipping the bike? If you're going to tow it all the way from Sacramento to Illinois and back, it seems like the amount of gas you're going to have to buy would be more than the shipping cost. Not to mention food, drink, and lodging along the way...

Anyway, as far as the "caddy", is that old Gold Wing chain-driven? If so, remove the chain and go for it. But if it has shaft drive (as they have been for quite a while), I'm not sure I would want to tow it that way.
