March 31 and it's already started......

I finish business in my home town today and get off work a little early. Low 60s, plenty warm enough to ride. Put on my suit and gear and off I go to scrub in my new Pilot Powers. There is a section of somewhat winding on ramps that are brushed concrete that define traction that I use to scuff new tires. I take the ramps fairly fast (only when there are no other vehicles) and then go with the flow of traffic when out on the highway. I feel there is nothing to prove when there is traffic and it will only draw bad attention.

Here is where it starts - I merge onto the highway with no traffic ahead and a truck behind me. I look in the mirror and out from behind the truck swings a HD DynaFatAss or whatever the phuck it is and here he comes. I'm thinking don't even try, yet I hear the sound of a farting bear and tub-o-shit with his leather skull cap and sunglasses gritting his teeth showing that red sport bike what a real performance bike can do
For a second I think "whatever, forget about it" then from no where a surge of testosterone goes through my body and I think "OK fat phuck, you want to see how hot that piece of shit of yours is?" I go past him at a buck ten nearly sucking the skull cap from his fat head all the time he is twisting the throttle on his tractor for all it's worth. I took the ramp no problem and was still pulling away even though he went straight.

Flame suit on, I should be more mature, I should keep that type riding on the track. It's just that if the guy would cruise on his cruiser, I'm fine with that, but to come past a red 998 mono with the rider in a suit and gear and act like your going to show him REAL performance. I don't know, just makes my blood boil.

Well, we aren't nearly as mature as we should be, are we?
And bravo for that!
Well done, Phil.

Yeah, you really showed HIM!!
Well done, coming here to crow!!
What's the plan for next weekend? Shooting fish in a barrel or taking candy from babies??

Seriously though... what's the point in adding to the madness?

I said flame suit on. OK, I know I was wrong, I do track days to go fast. The reason I posted here is because I know I am not the only one that has a performance bike that the dirt bag HD riders with 49bhp and straight pipes think they are going to show up. Like I said, if a guy is just riding, that's cool, but to act like he has the end all of performance and believes he is proving it, well yeah, I did sink to his level. He started it, not me, I just finished it.

Needless to say, I salute you.

Then again, I am proud of my immaturity.
Lifes too short...

It's all good Phil. Phuck 'em! I did the same thing last week to a 'Hardly'. They just sit there and rev, then blast through traffic to try and prove something. I only showed restraint for a short while, then blasted past his sorry ass and never looked back. Sometimes you just can't help it. When it was all done I just thought to myself, "I didn't really have to do that........................Yes I did."

How dare you add to the already strained image of the hopped up sportbiker .....

It was fun though, wasn't it?

I mean WTF. I have always tried to maintain that if you're not putting anyone else at risk, why not twist it a little bit? Ok, so maybe you risked HD guy losing his HD sunglasses or his HD bandana or his ...... you get the idea.

Sure, most here keep the real serious stuff on the track. But a guy can have a little fun on the street, can't he? If I recall, Phil, you're in my "age bracket" and have probably seen enough to have proper judgement as to when you can dial it up a bit and when to chill. Your post seems to describe exactly that.

Using almost any method of measuring time, you'll be dead soon. So have a little fun.

One of my favorite things to do while on a nice, long ride is to find a parade of Harleys holding up traffic and then pass them all at once.

Phil...I feel your pain.

A couple of years ago, I was riding my Duc on I-81 (only because it was a quicker way home after riding on some nice bike roads). I approaced three HD's in the right lane, pulled into the left lane, and passed them at about +5 mph...so it was a slow pass. I was in a full tuck, trying to avoid the wind and give my wrists a break as the 998R was definitely not designed for Interstate travel. As I pull back into the right lane, my mirror check revealed that the lead HD guy is flipping me off and making all kinds of additional rude gestures to show his riding buddies what a big man he was...behind my back.

Imagine his surprise when I sat up, turned around in the seat, and started coasting. All three started slowing down. Then, my higher level cognitive functions kicked in...telling me that it wasn't worth it. I simply shook my head at them, turned around, and rode away.

Most HD folks are really nice people. Unfortunately, human nature causes the a**holes to remain in your memory far too long...

Oh yes! I am a mature, responsible rider. I ride the twisties hard, mellow on the straights and if any other sportbikes want to pass me I move over and wave 'em by. I save the really hard stuff for the track. See? Reasonable.

But give me a line of two abreast harleys and some straight road - And away I go passing them at a ton plus, 10,000 RPM of Ducati song blasting through my Termi's drowning out the tractors...I always give a friendly wave as I pass though.

Funny thing is the few times the harley have stopped at the same local cafe I usually get a - "Man, that sounds sweet" or "didn't realize them sportbikes could sound like that".

Re: March 31 and it's already started.....

Hey Phil, same thing happened to me back in the 1990's but with a different ending. I was on my hopped-up Yamaha FZR1000 and he passed me real close on the open road doing maybe 100. So I caught up, we're both doing 110 or so, he's got giant ape-hangers and fringe stuck on everything.

So he looks over at me and hits it and pulls away. Then he slows down. Does it again. He's egging me on. So I downshift and get ready to dust this guy off...

He drops back next to me again and I nod. We both hit it, he smokes me. No crap. He pulled away like I was a piece of paper in the breeze! I caught him but by then the race was over. I couldn't believe it.

We pulled over at a rest stop and I looked over the hardley ableson. It had a killer motor with nitrous! Wiped the smile right off my face.

Nice guy too. Not all HD riders are jerks. Some enjoy riding as much as everyone else. We like Ducati, they like HD. No big deal to me. We're all riding...

I couldn't agree more, I have quite a few friends that own them. It is the arrogant dip shits like old "fat phuck" that I have the problem with. I really don't care what anyone chooses to ride, they're grown up and make their own choices. I just have heartburn with the morons who sit around and try to convince each other how fast their garden tractors are and then are stupid enough to attempt to prove it.
G
I like when slow ass vehicles attempt to "race" you like that, its laughable.

its times like this that I will miss the power of my R1 since it was capable of embarrasing just about anything on the road shy of a gsxr1000.

Unfortunately, there are 'arrogant dip shits' on sportbikes, too.
