Lust or sporty common sense?

Fellas (and the ocassional Duc chick),
I'm heart broken and at the same time time enthused. My Foggy is at the Ducati Frankfurt shop where they are attempting to sell it. This all due to the fact, its a pain to get it back to the states because its Euro spec. I'm looking for a replacement and had my heart set on a 999S or base model depending on year and price. This is the lust. Now in this process I started thinking ergonomics, horse power, looks, etc....the whole gambit. I'm now confused. OK..here it is.....don't cream me..somehow the K1200S BMW came into the equation
alright the 999 has the beemer in looks, sound, weight and exotica. The beemer has the comfort, torque, power, and i'm pretty sure longer less expensive service intervals. I started thinking about real life and the everyday aspect of motorcycle ownership. I'm not a racer but appreciate driving light nimble machines. Even my cars. I'm still living here in Germany, trying to enjoy some of the best riding in the world. In doing so my service intervals on my Ducati would just pop up. Quite expensive when you are paying in euros and get paid in U.S. dollars
choices.....

You should check with whatever state you would be moving to. If custom bikes can be built w/o safety features then why not yours. I titled a bike with a VIN# (4 digits), a MSO and some receipts. No inspection just pay the fees and away you go.
Or buy another Foggy here and switch the plates back and forth.

Hey Foggy123,
I could probably get plates from my own state of Alaska. Its just the initial customs when the bike gets shipped into port. Evidently they have been pretty tough on bikes being shipped by servicemembers from overseas. I would prefer not to strip the bike down.

what about getting plates before you get it home? It seems to me that they aren't going to look to closely or you could say you shipped it from the states and now back. Have a friend or family member go register it for you. It's worth a shot. Besides what do you have that I don't have on mine?

Re: (foggy123)

The only differences stock, were U.S. spec. bikes have reflectors, light switch is on when you start the bike, and possible evaporation cannisters. All things that easily get modded off a bike from the get go. Its the customs guy, with a Ducati list of U.S. VIN #'s that's the problem. My bike can look right, have all of the above including the right speedometer and licensed in the states. If there is no U.S. VIN and proper DOT stickers, chances are he'll stick me.

Tell him its a Canadian bike import. Then all you need is a receipt to show that you have bought a MPH speedo.

if its already on the bike why would I need a receipt to show him?
