The tech at the local Stealer used "suzuki chain lube" to lub the chain as part of my 6K service. It has left black residue all over the swingarm and wheel. Cannot take it off so far.
I usually use a "chain wax" and it leaves almost NO residue.
Please advise..the swingarm and wheel looks disgusting.

I have some Motul Bike poolish and WD40..
WIll spot test both..
If they dont work..will try the Motorex..
Thank you all.
.
Between the OIL fiasco and the tech not cleaning the bike after the service..I feel like my bike has been violated..I have to bring it back to its original condition..
NOW I understand why so many people service their own bikes.

1st off, don't clean wounds with wd-40. petrol based products floating around in the blood stream are bad.
wd-40 is great and safe for removing chain lube, sticker residue and brake dust. probably goes w/o saying but don't get it on your tires.
i also use these very cool citrus based towels that come in a small bucket. they are called Knuckles. Google it and see if they sell them in your neck of the woods. they are great on any kind of grease and do an excellent job on dead bugs also. they have a slight touch of grit so you can't go crazy on a painted surface but they rule for claening up metal.

WD-40 will indeed take off any lube-fling quickly and easily but it will also leave a slight sticky residue. I was using it quite often on my rims and found them to collect dirt quicker after using it. Now I make sure to clean the rims with s100 right after cleaning them with WD-40.

Go to the harware store and get a bottle of mineral spirits. It's cheap and effective. Won't hurt paint etc. Been using it for years.

I wouldnt
I use mineral spirits to clean oil off of my garage floor after an oil change, but I dont think I would use it on painted surfaces. Then again what do I know back in the day I used gasoline to clean tar off my Yukon

It must be a Wisconsin thing.

Min spirits is good on the rocks with a twist. Takes a bit to get used to. My buddy in PHX fills a big glass with ice. Then beer. I gave him the long sacreligous look on that one. Must be an Arizona thing.

Mineral spirits does work well for chain goo on wheels etc. The 998 looks fine. No paint discoloring etc.

I say it must be a Wisconsin thing because I lived there for most my life and went to college in Madison

kerosene works as well as the wd40, crc, etc. it'll never damage paint or anything else.

some rims, especially flat finish ones it seems, really don't like the spirit sort of stuff. the paint on bmw rims and late guzzi for example, and maybe the early ducati bronze too.

Plexus is better than Honda Polish. It cleans everything.

Re: (brad black)

Kerosene works great. I haven't used it on my wheels, but all that black crap under the swingarm and around the front sprocket comes right off. More effective than WD-40.
