This is the spawn of a factory where engineering rules and that leads
to real authority... the U3-X is another far out entry from Honda's
Idea Contest which is to encourage inventiveness and originality among
its employees... so every year Honda sponsors an Idea Contest... with
entries ranging from the practical to the unusual to the ridiculous,
the contest is so much fun that it gets a lot of publicity in Japan...
An individual, a group or team of Honda employees can compete by
entering anything they can dream up in a preliminary screening...
Honda then finances those whose ideas are accepted. Though the results
are sometimes delightfully droll, some of the ideas have actually been
adopted and utilized by Honda... Just one more example of the Honda
Way in action, fostering individual initiative and creativity... and
enjoying it, too...

I can see the point in this: Japan has an aging population and this could make them some money.
But I somehow find it hard to believe they have the money for that thing (and the technology behind it is bleeding edge and hence very expensive) and not to develop new bikes. Europe has been waiting for decent Honda trailies since the Transalp 650 was dropped in 2006 and as BMW showed there's some serious cash to be made in that market.

PS: am I the only one to think the blond in the video seems lifted out of a softcore porn? ;)
