what's better - the nice fancy gloves (say dainese ducati) with just a nice smooth leather palm, or the kind with a padded palm (say alpinestars or most others).

i wore a set of the dainese ducati ones, and lord - they fit better than a condom... just felt like a natural part of my hand.....

the other ones with padded palms feel a bit bulky/not as comfortable... but will probably help in case of a fall?

so opinions on which way to go? Those dainese ones were just too nice, and were pretty cheap too, so i'm thinking about returning the alpinestars that i got for xmass and getting the ones i liked..

:) Thanks

Re: glove question.. padded palm or just leather? (spawn_x)

I like the ones with just plain leather palms. The other ones feel like baseball gloves to me.

We wear Held gloves, check those out.

Re: glove question.. padded palm or just leather? (spawn_x)

I have some Lee Parks and Daineses and stopped wearing them when I got the Held Profis. My model has little buttons in the palm that may allay your fears of scraping the palm leather off in the event of a scrape.

check out the N2 summer kangaroo gloves at motoliberty.com, kangaroo palm with padding at the heel of palm. The kangaroo is increadible. Crash tested a pair and they held up. I'm on my second pair, extremely comfortable.

Jason, I beg to differ. Held gloves are rubbish. If somebody tell me how to attach a pic from the hard drive I'll show proof it. Low speed (relatively speaking) at Beaverun hairpin. I wouldn't wear them again if I got them for free. R U B B I S H!

I wore Alpinestar Gloves for a few years, but I kept wearing through the palms (with the grips). So I stopped using them.

Re: glove question.. padded palm or just leather? (section8superbike)

Two lowside crashes at about 45mph on my Alpinestars SP1s, the padded palms have held up, but the stitching has not and the seems are falling apart. The CF or plastic armor has also done its job and I have never damaged my hands. Overall they have done their job, but next gloves will be Kangaroo.

Re: glove question.. padded palm or just leather? (killer bee)

This was loosing the front at a hairpin. Relatively slow speed. I don't want to think what may have happened at 75mph. Leather ripped at seam and grinded thru the supposed layer of kevlar (and my pinky). I say supposed because it's obviously not there. It's your skin.... Maybe the folks at helimot do have a point.... Me? Bye bye Held. Hello Alpinestars...

How about "Hello Helimot". They've got a new glove - the H20 (Helimot 20 Year Anniversary)...Kangaroo underside for that great feel, finger stitching on the top sides of the fingers, curved palm so that it doesn't bunch up between your hand and the bar, you can order them in different color combinations, they're made in the US with top quality materials and craftsmanship, and they're designed by a rider. $200

Best damn gloves you'll find for anywhere near that price - and pretty damn close to custom.

As for the crashed glove above - that's a standard problem with the Helds. Helmut (of Helimot) was trying to get them to change the stitching in that area, among others, because the stitching was exposed in a crash. A little swipe of those areas along the asphalt, and the thread gets cut ans starts quickly unravelling.

No stitching like that in the Helimot line of gloves.

As for the initial question....at the base of the palm, you can have some padding because it's generally not between the hand and the grips. but when you get up to where your palm bends, and on up to the fingers, it's probably best not to have padding because then you'll feel it bunch up between the palm and the bars.

Dude....I've probably got Helds older than you. I crashed in my first-generation kevlars...but I still have my second-generation kevlars from somewhere around 1990/91.

If your hand is anywhere close to my size, I'll be happy to let you check my Helimot gloves out.

Jason, hand cream isn't good for gloves. I would guess that you only wore a glove to prevent a tell-tale callous.

however, the glove won't prevent blindness.

maybe if you gave it a rest......

Alpinestars GP plus, there arent any better. The SP1s are junk. Sportrider did a test with the SP1s and they fell apart.

Re: (spawn_x)

I just looked in the Ducati Performance Apparel catalog that I got with my FE and I didn't see any glove by that name.
