just wondering if there was a way to check if the headset bearings (triple tree ones) if they were bad or loose without ripping the whole front end apart? I know on my bicycle you could grab the fork and the bars and shake them but i dont know if there is a different method for a motorcycle. Thanks for the help.

if you can suspend the front end... you can do that...

look for notches or wired spots when turning the bars... roll the bike forward and hit the brakes... if you can feel the triple move forward or back.

or tear it apart.

Mine seemed a bit loose also when I first got the bike. I'd feel little jitters during slow speed braking over bumps. It turned out that the head nut was extremely loose. Try tightening it and don't forget the blue loctite.
