Saw this on another thread and figured I would give it one of its own. I have a Set of Custom fitted (Well worth the hundred bucks) I never ride without them anymore. Do you wear them and if not Why NOT? Your hearing is worth it and I dont say "huh" all the time now either.

Re: Ear Plugs (TBONE)

Not sure about plugs, but gonna try ear bauds now that I picked up an 4G iPod. Anxious to experience if the player will cancel out some of that arai wind-noise.

Re: Ear Plugs (TBONE)

I never ride without ear plugs unless I'm taking short rides around the neighborhood shaking the bike down inbetween trackdays/races.

A few seasons back my friend posted a chart from OSHA that had the sound levels of different activities like motorcycle riding and the long term effects on your hearing. I value all my senses a lot and I'm not going to risk loosing some hearing, especially when ear plugs are so easy to get a hold of

I remember riding about 60-miles from my place to a friends house before I used plugs...I was doing that "huh, what did you say" routine for a bit after I got ot his place. I can't immagine subjecting ones ears to that season after season...

I'll see if I can find that chart.

Re: Ear Plugs (drthompson65)

I have two italian helmets--Vemar and Suomy. Earplugs are a must with all italian helmets. I just have the foam type which work ok. As long as you wear something.

Re: Ear Plugs (DocHolliday)

I have custom ear plugs and they are well worth the money. I read that wind noise at sustained speeds above 50ish can cause long-term hearing damage.

They are good for plane flights or screaming nephews as well...

I don't recommend listening to tunes while riding, same for talking on a cell phone...there are already too many other distractions on the road.... but to each his own - like non-mandatory helmet laws I guess...

Re: Ear Plugs (livharder)

ducmonster ruined me. i can't ride without my custom plugs ever. i tried it on the track for the first time this season and i found that i was less fatigued and able to concentrate more with them in. well worth the money to get a custom set that fits.

Re: Ear Plugs (TBONE)

Good post TBONE, I have been riding for over thirty years and never thought about it. I will be giving it a try, my Suomy helmet isn't the quietest either.
Thanks

Re: Ear Plugs (TBONE)

I would like to wear them, but I can't seem to find any that fit me well. I guess I have small ear canals. I am going to get a pair of customs done though.

Re: Ear Plugs (tattooskickass)

After riding the SH with "Race only" pipes ear plugs were a must.

I also used to DJ and my dad wears hearing aids so I'm probably already screwed

I love mine. I am only Selectively deaf now. Once you get a good custom pair made you will not be comfortable on the bike with out them. I use em for going shooting, The drag races, Rock concerts and any other high volume activity. My hearing is actually starting to come back (I was at a 30% loss for a while)

Re: (TBONE)

Where do ya get the custom plugs? They come in a kit, right?

I got mine through Arizona Ear Protection. Call around and you might try some of those Hearing Aid Places. They may be able to make them

Re: (TBONE)

I never wear ear plugs, but I'm gonna buy some tonight at Walgreens. I think they have the foam ones. I know those fit me from my Army National Guard days.

Re: (socal)

Gotta have them. I just use the throw-away foamies cuz I can chew on them after they get too dirty to put in my ears.
