................to fire a PITA or situationaly abusive (takes advantage of whatever opening may arise and abuses it to their advantage) customer? Of course this would be after any kind of situation had already been taken care of to the customers satisfaction.

I think it would play out like this:

section8 "Are we all set? Everything has been taken care of to your satisfaction?"

Customer "Yes, everything I need has been taken care of, thanks"

section8 "Maybe it's just bad luck, maybe you are trying to take advantage of us or maybe our relationship is simply cursed. But we have decided we can't afford to have you as a customer. Please do not contact us in the future"

From the point of view of a customer is this reasonable? Or should we grit our teeth and bear it?

thanks

Re: Do you think it's fair................................... (section8superbike)

I'd lose the accusatory statement, <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by section8superbike »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">, maybe you are trying to take advantage of us </TD></TR></TABLE>.

It might go over better.

Or.... just tell the guy to piss-off.

losing a customer is hard on a business. even if he's an ass he still has friends somewhere. and if they decide to buy whatever it is you sell he's going to say "don't go to S8SBK, they suck." as his friend i don't know you but i know my friend so i go look someplace else. the best thing for both of you (win-win) is to be honest, cut thru the bs and talk about it like men.
i was fed up with my dealer here in WI. at 1 point and went to the shop with my trailer to collect my un-finished bike. i felt i was getting the run around and had enough. the owner spoke with me very frankly, i told him exactly what was wrong and what i expected. i had to be realistic. he told me what he could do. we remain friends today. just my .02

Re: Do you think it's fair................................... (section8superbike)

I did some short time in a Suzuki shop when between jobs and one thing I realised of the public.....they want everything foir nothing....or you are a no good mother f%@*%r.
Its a business where I sell things to you. If I decide to throw in a hat or sticker or movie or whatever its my decision.
Dont go bad mouth a BUSINESS because you got nothing for nothing.Dont bitch about service.....you cant handle the $$ do it yourself and if or when you bring a box of parts back Ill charge you double to sort thru the mess.
Its a crappy business sometimes you guys deal with and you can have it.
Now after that asskissing session can I have a free Section 8 t-shirt?

Re: Do you think it's fair................................... (section8superbike)

To the section 8 crew, as far as a business stand point here's how we see it, and so does the majority of the business world, It is also the choice of the business owner with whom you do business, so to answer the question Hell yeah FIRE HIM.

I know I am going to get some back lash for this but you have to look at what the customer means to your business forget personal feelings this is business, If his account with you yields xxx$$$ then you will do so much if the guy. If he spends $200 per annum and gives you three headaches a week then is it worth it from the business point of view NO. so then fire his ass.

Ok thats it.
Happy new year Bah Humbug and all that

Re: (section8superbike)

I'm assuming this is a service customer? If so, it may be better to just turn them away in future, without actually saying anything.

From what I can tell about retail sales and service is that it is socially acceptable for the patron to piss off the retailer and screw them...but don't let that same patron get tweeked or ticked off (for whatever reason) that starts the whole word of mouth BS...

Some where, some how, some dipshit came up with the saying that the customer is always right... and alot of people seem live by this and feel you as a retailer should be lucky to have them and bend over backwards for them knowing good and well they're trying to take advantage. I personally have turned sales away because of the "vibe" I have gotten from a customer or two...and have learned through experience that just saying no (without an explination) can be pretty damn entertaining! Think about it...no one wants to be told that you won't sell them something...I mean come on...you need them more than they need you!!

Sorry for rambling

Re: Do you think it's fair................................... (Doo Cat One)

Yes, absolutely! I'm in a different type of business, but just this week I "fired" a potential client. Based on my dealings with him prior to submitting a proposal for professional services to be performed, I decided that this guy was going to be a PITA, and I've just got better things, and better people, to spend my time on. Be nice and polite, but show him the door and don't look back when you close it behind him. From what I've read on this board, you've got a tremendous rep already, and one a**hole is not going to hurt your business. Good luck!

OK....

Plan “B”.... Even in the slimiest tavern on the planet, they have a sign behind the bar that reads: “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone”

So tell the guy not to one come back how ever you want, but.... one pissed off customer will cost you ten new customers in the future.

Word of mouth can make or break you.

Call him an asshole and tell him his mother’s underwear stink... he’ll bad mouth you ‘till the end of time. Tell him politely that things aren’t working out, and he might only hate you for a few years.

The great and powerful mental has spoken.

Don't worry Jay,

Since I've known you, I've spent an average of $20,000 a year on your services. You'll always be able to live off of what I pay you.

Where the hell are my tee-shirts?!!!!! Give me a small. I'll let my wife wear it for crying out loud!!!

Re: Do you think it's fair................................... (Turbo329)

Life is too short to rely on assholes to support you.

I own my shop. I treat every customer as if they are the most important client I have. I also refuse to take shit from a disrespectful client. I have refused to do future business with maybe a dozen people in the last ten years. If their friends are anything like them I don't want them for customers either.

Jason you will be validated as a no-nonsense straight shooter. If you feel that the PITA will make a point of badmouthing you, use the retaliation method Tell this customer that you will post his name and his baseless complaints on your website and on a bulletin board behind the counter so that every person that has anything to do with Section8 will see what a piece of shit this person really is. 99% of these snivelers will slink away and never bother you again.

One of the reasons we go the self-employed route in our lives is to control the amounts of exposure to assholes and losers that we will put up with. We sure don't do it to get rich

I'll chime in as well. I've never owned a retail business, but I've worked in a few, and you have absolutely no obligation to serve a customer who doesn't treat you with respect.

Fire his ass.

Re: Do you think it's fair................................... (sp2pilot)

Is there not rules about firing a customer? Could this not get into a discrimnation thing? Just think about it Harley dealership in San Franciso decides they no longer will sell chaps to homosexuals, and then post their face or name on a board in the back (no pun intended) on a asshole list. Would this not get out of hand?

I understand your pain and have seen some pretty screwed up stuff happen at Ducati dealerships. I have even seen one customer try to claim that the blown up bike he had ,was not his and the dealer give him the wrong bike back!!!

With anything one does asshole's should factor into the equation. Come on, there everwhere, and most times you can find them for freel.

I would never say your an asshole and never come back. Do something more legal like file a restraining order if he is making treats. Have the police serve them a no trespassing order. Post in your store that you resevre the right to refuse sevice but make sure it is done in a legal way and has nothing to do with emotions.

You are still a professional if you continue to act like one, otherwiswe you are letting a asshole drag you down to there level and kicking you ass with experience.

I'd fire the PITA.

I'm really tired of them people telling me how to treat animals. They boycott the local McDonalds every other week. What's next... They will probably tell us we should not be wearing leather suits at the track.
