Damaged shift pin help?

I crashed my '04 999S at the track. The aluminum GP shift lever teeth (female side) were stripped in the crash and the lever came off. The steel shift pin teeth extending from the side case look fine. I put a new lever on the shift pin. The bike goes through all gears but the shifting is stiff and does not have the "spring/return" when changing gears that it did prior to the crash. Any ideas as the most likely problem?

Only a guess, but I would say the shaft is slightly bent and is binding in the case.

Take the cover off and check out the linkage. It's pretty common for a big hit to mung that stuff up. I may even have some used ones arround here somewhere.

It's fairly easy.
