Edward Turner went to Japan in 1960 to study the local motorcycle industry.
He predicted Honda would flounder in their "grandiose" expansion schemes because the US market was "saturated" by British bikes.
After Honda CB750 wiped the floor with the various Norton's, BSA's, Triumph's etc he must have had second thoughts.
He also designed two of the worst machines ever to come out of Britain, the Tigress and Tina scooters. If I remember correctly Triumph was so desperate to sell the awful Tina they even aped the "You Meet the Nicest people on a Honda" ad campaign. Must have it in some old book or magazine downstairs.
