I just got a used GMRS X1 off e-bay, and believe it or not, the headset doesn't work on one speaker. I've isolated it to the connection plug, and of course, the seller conveniently isn't returning e-mails. Well, rather than spend $60 on a new headset, I was wondering if there's any way you can peel back the jack and resolder the wires.

The jack is IDENTICAL to a computer mouse plug, except it has three wires coming out the back, instead of just one, like the mouse. I just want to unsheathe it a bit to get to the wires. Does anyone know if this can be done, and how?

The connector does look just like the old mouse connectors. Since the headset is broken anyway, strip back enough wire to get the color code and give it a try. I don't see why it shouldn't work.
