Where's the best place to buy a small sheet of carbon fiber to make a dash?
Lockhart Phillips has it on backorder!
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Carbon Fiber Sheet? (tricklidz1)

Follow this link. I have bought from them, very nice carbon fiber sheets. If you need a custom cut I know a guy for that too. I also made my own dash.

http://www.macqc.com/

Go to "but online" scroll down to bottom of page for sheets. I think they have pics of the twill or you can call them for information.

Cuts well. Use a mask for sure. I've used dremel and router. The supplier I linked you too was the best price, size combo I could find. I also found a supplier for angle stock, 2 inch legs, to use to make brackets. 90 degree angle. I had to buy 6 ft though to get the stuff. Mil spec, etc. I can sell it by the foot if you want some of that.

Re: (duc1036)

I just need a piece of flat sheet. Maybe 8"X6". I'm going to mount it to the aluminum race fairing support (Vortex) to mount the MyChron 3Plus digital dash I ordered.
Do you have any flat sheet left?

Re: (tricklidz1)

I've got some 2x2 twill 4layers thick. I can cut you a piece for nothing, just pay shipping. I also have some angle if you need.

Re: (rossi46)

A jigsaw should work, I use a scroll saw and a dremal. You should wear a mask, gloves, and long sleeves. I tape over where I'm going to cut and draw pattern on the tape.

Re: (rossi46)

Something like this would be great. I have a 998 and have always wanted to do the carbon over the dash instead of just the foam piece. I have not wanted to spend the $75 for one just yet however.

Cheers.

Re: (rossi46)

cool

i was thinking i could have some small steel nuts 15mm long bolts welded to my stainless pipes, and then use two small black aluminum bolts through the carbon pieces. I could take some measurements for each side and let you know, cool?

it should not be more than 4-5cm wide by 10-12cm long.

how far off the pipe should the nuts be so the carbon stands a chance?
how big of a deal will it be to have those welded?
what type of welder can i buy, are there cheapish ones?

thanks for the help

Re: (mrgrn)

Small pieces will bend a little, very little. Have the nuts welded for you, shouldn't be much. Stay 15-20mm off the pipe and should be ok.

Psssssst.... rossi46, dude..... the guy's talking about his bong ...not his exhaust pipe.
Don't give these guys all your CF, because you won't have any left to make cool things for us.

Trust me, they're all a bunch of long haired, hippy type, pinko ****. Save your CF for our bikes. We gotta stick together, bro.
