Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (superbike2001)

They both look legit to me as well!

I want to know how hard it was to get that carbon bellypan on the stock fairings?

The first one does have alot of nice goodies on it

They both look very clean as well. now if you could only go see and ride both

As far as the S goes I think most 748's from 98 and 99 were S models nothing really special about them both have showa rear shock and forks. I could be wrong though
If I remmember right in 2000 they had sachs rear and non adjustable ecentric on base 748.

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (superbike2001)

I think those are both the real deal.

First one has some nice add-ons. Higher mileage would be fine if it was well taken care in the maintainence dept., with records. That belly pan is nice, wish I knew how to get one of those attached to the OEM lowers.

Second one looks to have an adjustable steering head which would be indicative of an 's' in the '99 MY, I believe. Somewhere in '97, '98, or '99 the adj. steering head was changed as a std feature on all 748 models, to a 748s only feature. Doesn't look like it's been ridden hard by the looks of the rear tire, but that may be new.

Just have to see where the reserves end up as to whether either one of them would be a good deal.

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (brettmess24)

Yea, you both are thinking the same as me!!! That's good!!!!

I wounder if the body work is stock? The advertisement kind of eludes to that, but I guess it would have to be chopped (stock lower)????

I'm just looking for 748 at the right price. The fresher the motor the better, and proper service is nice, but this bike will be a project bike. I want to get it home and maybe after a little riding do an 853 kit with the megacycle rockers. And then a full up resto on it. I just missed out on a 99 with allot of nice goodies in my area to... The motor had all the nice bits in it and had a few nice exterior parts also (Wheels). Its just a matter of time.

Looking to spend no more than $6500. But you never know.. If I dont find one sooner rather than later I might throw a bit more into it? We'll see!

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (superbike2001)

I emailed the guy about the bellypan and this is what he said:

I made a cardboard template from the bellypan transferred that to the bottom of the fairings and traced that with a marker and cut using a dremel tool. Yes it was hard and nerve racking. If you are doing it take your time mine came out better than some superbike race teams ive seen. Well worth the effort though. Graphics came from cutgraphix of australia.

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (superbike2001)

First see if you or someone you know can see the bike, and ask the owner for svc records if available.(maybe he does his own work)

If you only want to spend $6500 bid that and see what happens

The other thing I personally would be thinking about is ditching those three spokes that alone will cost you anywhere from $800 to $2300 and up if you fancy carbon wheels

$7900 is a bit much but I would pay about $7k and buy some new wheels

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (brettmess24)

Yea ok! Would be good to have someone look at it at least or have him take it to a shop and pay them to at least give it a once over maybe? I have nevr done any deal site unseen and that does scare me a bit!
That would be some thing I would do in the future. (wheels)

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (DougPA)

I missed out

I might try and get a good look at it and see what I think up close. See if he is still looking to sell it. $7k is as much as I want to spend. For any 748.

Doug... Want to go look at it for me? (And not buy it out from under me
)

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (brettmess24)

SB if ur serious...post ur email address (or advise alternate idear)...and I will send u a message to work out what u want and expect. I'm pretty busy, but will try to help. I once bought a Duc out-of-state, only seeing pics and was also very nervous. Turns out this was one of the better 2 day drives of my life and I am waiting for this fellow to offer another for sale...and my wife finally got her own olive boat. Thanks again marvin.

Re: Anyone Know these 748??? (superbike2001)

I say offer him 7 k and see what he says, maybe he will drop a bit from the 7.5 k.

When it comes down to a couple of hundred dollars.......I think of all the times that two to three hundred dollars has slipped through my fingers....last weekend taking the g/f out to dinner Friday, having a few liquors saturday night with the guys, buying those shoes to add to the other 4 pair that you have........need I say more !

Make some sacrifices and get the bike if you are happy with it.
