I ordered a few of the odd little collar washers for gas tanks the other day from Honda and they came in a little differently than the other ones. Just speculation here, but am guessing they either changed them to continue using with other models, or achieved some sort of economy by shaving/beveling the small lip on the "washer" part from their supplier. Note also the color differences, new one black and gloss old one green and matte.

I'd be willing to bet a new supplier came in and quoted some prices for different odd ball pieces. New supplier's price was likely less than what Honda was previously paying, so now there's a new piece to replace the old, but serve the same function.

It's just Honda being Honda. Probably the same reason why my bike has one black filter and one gold one.
