Does anyone know anything at all about the DP lap timer that works with the 749/999 guages?

Anyone tried getting a MyChron to trigger the display?

Do you mean the lap timer that built in to the bike?

This function lets you record lap time and displays top speed and engine rpm during that lap.
By pressing the left button, the lower left area will cycle through trip meter, odometer and lap time indication. Select the lap mode only after you start the engine because the engine start button act as the start and stop button once the lap mode is selected, you can't start the engine when the bike is in lap mode. Use the engine start button to start and stop the chronometer.
After measuring lap times, up tp 19 times may be retrieved and displayed on the LCD. Pressing the left button will scroll through recorded times. The instrument panel provides the following informations:

Lap number at the lower right area

Top engine rpm during selected lap on the engine revolution meter

lap time on the lower left corner

Top speed during that lap on the tachometer

The tachometer reads a speed average 8% higher than the actual speed when riding, Maximum speed stored on the LCD is the actual speed of the vehicle during the lap concerned.

To wipe off recorded lap times, hold down the right button for over 5 seconds.

Obviously most of you haven't read the owners manual that comes with the bikes?

There's a 3 way plug near the steering head with a blank in it. This can go to a track beacon receiver which acts like a switch and will trigger the laptimer in the same way as the start button. So you need a laptime infra red beacon and receiver (not the readout, just the sensor) and you're away.

Re: (duane mitchell)

Can your recommend a compatible one? (IR receiver)?
G
If the lap timer shows the correct top speed and not to top speed shown during the lap on the speedo I would assume the speedo error is factory set.
Do the yellow box people or anyone else make a plug in module to correct this?

Anyone got a schematic of that plug? Are all lap timers the same frequency? We could a get generic IR receivers and solder them to a plug. Maybe make a nice aluminum base for them. Its only power wire and a switched leg. I'd be in to help!

You have to be kidding, right? Must be because it comes with a transmitter????

OK, now we really have to find a compatible one to use! Its just an IR switch for petes sake.
Any ideas????

For $900.00 you could afford several seasons of binging a friend to the track with an extra lawn chair, umbrella and a six pack... so he or she could time your laps for you. And... as a fringe benefit, if it's a she, you might get a "noon-er" in the motorcycle trailer.

You gotta stay one step ahead of the game.

From my experience I have found that nooners in the trailer hurt my track performance. My theory is that I need all the testosterone I can muster up. What I have found that does work is taking TWO umbrella girls in the trailer AFTER the track time and taking out all my "losing" frustrations on them. Then the day is a success!

Obviously... your track expertise out trumps mine.

On a more thread related point...
... don't some of those quick/power shifters have built in lap timers? If memory serves, the whole kit was about $1,300.00. Considering that the DP part was $900.00, that doesn't seem too bad.

Just a thought.
