600RR to RC51 Hugger ?'s

2762 Views 17 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  wera32
I got my 600rr Hugger on the way, and I can't find the thread where it shows exactly how to do it. Who ever has done this mod, if you can give me any instructions or pics, I would appreciate it.

BTW, I have to count my blessings after getting pulled over yesterday for doing a wheelie(yeah flame on, I'm a squid), but I was happy to have my bike back in running order. I guess if you get pulled over like I did, just agree, respect him, and kiss his ass. It was a motorcycle cop, and I was looking at Reckless Driving, and just got a verbal warning.

I think it's a 954 hugger, not a 600RR hugger. But my memory is bad. :D
You can do a 954 or 600RR hugger. I did a 600rr on my 03. Did a big write up about how to do it with pics a while back. Let me see if I can find it.
I guess the old archived data from previous forum is gone?

I will do some searching over the web. That's where I found the basic data.
Here is instructions from another forum. Read through the entire thread.

Thanks alot man. I should be getting it next week(got it for $1.25 +$10 for shipping off of ebay for an 05) and will be doing the mod then.

And with the way gas prices are going here in the midwest($3.29 for 87 octane), it looks like I will have plenty of time on my hands to do it.

Thats NUTZ! Holy Shit!
Ya think. Hell it was 2.69/gal yesterday morning. 2.99/gal at the end of the day. 3.29/gal today. Just a bunch of bullshit if you ask me. The Alaskan Pipeline flows 910,057 barrels of oil a day. You get 42 gallons of gas out of each barrel. Why the hell are we relying on these foreign oil companies for oil. Eff them.

I'm scared at what it is going to be when I move into my place this weekend.
I also used a 600RR hugger and at $10.95 full retail it's a great deal and looks good too.
Hmm, doesnt look like that 600RR hugger would fit an SP1 swingarm.
Where are you guys getting such cheap huggers. I cant find any under 30 bucks.:wtf
TX gas = 3.01 for 87 and we have all the dam oil shit right right....think they would give us a break.
mine was free from a friend, and its 3.53 for 93, paid 4.09 in orlando 2 weeks ago... god help us if we get wrecked with hurricanes this season ill be buying a golfcart and swap my satos on it..
I never got mine to fit flush on the sides. With a 180/55 tire it would make light contact (yes the ribs were cut out), so with a hot tire expanding and the stretching that comes at speed the hugger would be destroyed in a single ride. I had to run big spacers on the sides to allow for enough clearance on the top of the tire. I'm a 190/55 could have problems with clearance on the side but I'm sure it could be made to work. See the pic below for what I had setup (sorry for such a small pic). Regardless of the fitment on the sides it worked well. It protected the shock from debris and kept the undertail "cleaner" than running without a hugger at all, I was happy especially for the $15 it cost me.

I installed mine like JD and run a 190/55 with no problems.
Try installing it first without cutting too much of the ribs out...it will remain stiffer that way, but I haven't noticed excessive flex..
I had to use spacer on left side.
Right side used brake line mounting hole.
Center drilled a hole and installed a thread insert to take the bolt.
Looks good and protects the shock very well.
so the huggers from
954 RR
600RR
will both work
any other ones F4i 929
?
I wish I could find gas for less than 3.50... 3 bucks is looking good right about now.

JD you have pics posted of your bike somewhere?
Looking for a hugger as we speak.
Don't get the hugger from an '05 or newer. They're different than the early RR huggers and won't work. You know how I know!:(
