Suggestion: Banning Announcements?

Would it be possible or advisable to announce when a member is banned, and for how long?

So everyone can know who is still here and who is going to have the option for coming back in X days.

Rothmans 02-29-2012 07:31 PM

Looks like Rocky MT is banned as well now...no worries, we are going to move along here soon, no need to ban me!

6511 02-29-2012 08:01 PM

I donīt think itīs a good idea to put users at a public stake.

Rothmans, I kindly asked RockyMt to tone down several(!) times. He ignored it repeatedly. I removed his account temporarily for three days. He just went on afterwards like he did before. Again I asked him more than once to please read the rules and act by them. We have very loose rules here and I donīt think itīs that hard to act respectful with each other as a grown man. Again, he ignored it and now his account is suspended for good. Same with Jami6989.

mrgrnīs account will be reactivated in a few days (tomorrow I think) and he will be back after a 10 day ban. If things donīt get better, I will suspend his account for good, too.

To be honest, I donīt want to discuss the misconducts of members in public.

I have asked all forum members if they want to stick with the moderation and the result was that the majority wanted to. If one day the majority of you guys say you want the old days back from mid 2011, Iīll gladly take my hat and leave. Until then Iīll be here and enjoy discussions without senseless users trying to rip their virtual heads off and piss in their corpses.

If anyone has anything proper to add, go ahead.

duckdawg 02-29-2012 08:10 PM

this site used to be fun...

Huh? Proper?

Good luck Ben, I know you had good intentions!

Are you people serious ? This is the I N T E R N E T ! You're talking like it is of major importance to the welfare of all . This is NOT the cure for cancer or the way out of world hunger...It's a gahdahm'd motorcycle chat . You take things at face value and move on...

You are NOT in your own little country where you decide who can say what about anything or anyone . Get over yourself , life is too fckin short...

Just sayin...

mattmansell 02-29-2012 11:07 PM

Ben,

We have talked offline and I can see your frustration. I have a really hard time however, banning both Jami and Rocky for life... Those guys are part of what makes this site what it is.

and freq too;)

Where did all the sanctimonious windbags come from? There are plenty of overmoderated motorcycle forums filled with tender-hearted pussies who hide behind the letter of the rules of a particular site but in reality are just obnoxious little shits who like to stir up trouble for their own entertainment.

And yet, Speedzilla appears to be headed down the same road. It used to be unique and that was the appeal for many people here. They might mind their manners on Ducati.ms, but then come over here and say what they really think about a particular racer or bike, or even member if both post on both sites.

We were self-policing to a large degree. Yes, some members did not get along with others. Yes, some were shysters or dickheads. But these were exposed many times.

Once you start deleting posts because somebody gets their feelings all butt-hurt over a particularly pointed (and often accurate) comment, you may as well close the site down. Pornography and racist comments should be about the extent of the edit. It is like trying to accomplish no child left behind, in this case no pussy left offended.

This should not be taken as a direct criticism of Ben. I think he is doing what he has been tasked to do, and it is a thankless and impossible job. Don't do anything and people say you aren't moderating, overdo it and everyone with any real content value leaves and you look like a schmuck.

Tough situation.

I agree 100%

+1

Is there gonna be another poll regarding feedback on the moderation 'cos the last one got locked down ...

sburns2421 02-29-2012 11:29 PM

If there was a poll to let Jami and Rocky back on or not the results might surprise a few people.

I'm guessing over 80% of people who have been members more than a year would say to let them back on.

mattmansell 02-29-2012 11:35 PM

First vote,

Bring em' back!

Excellent post sburns. Especially regarding Ben. He's a guy in an impossible situation. I'd add direct threats of violence [not " I hope you burn in a car crash"] just the serious personally directed shite. But that would be the extent of it.

duc1036 03-01-2012 12:31 AM

It's over here. The place will never be the same for better or worse.
I agree we were a self regulating group calling each other out as we saw fit.
I think once vertical scope got involved with political correctness and "active" moderation the uniqueness of the forums (and site) was lost. Long time members here are gone never to return. The personalities were what made this place. The ability to post freely as well.
I lurk here and still post occasionally but as the song goes, "the thrill is gone".

Le Kiwi 03-01-2012 09:51 AM

As much as Rocky and Jami were obnoxious fascist windbags, I'm actually upset they're banned.
They likely think I'm a goofy liberal baby fur seal hugging prick without a clue, but at least we could argue over the nuance in the war room. If people didn't like reading it, they were free to leave or read something else. There's plenty of content here.
Oh well, whatever.
Good luck, Ben. You've got a tough job to do, and it's your decision in the end based on "teh rulz". :p

LDH 03-01-2012 01:15 PM

Yea I don't get it either... Ben permanently bans 2 of the more colorful members of the forum, but the one guy that has been irrefutably determined to be the most despised member on the bored oops I mean board in a public poll conducted on this site is being reinstated shortly.

My vote is to bring Jami and Rocky back immediately. If things keep going like this around here I'm going to have to re-open the ROGUE forum to new members just to give people a place of refuge...

duckdawg 03-01-2012 01:44 PM

that was a harsh decision dude, they have both been here a long time...
