Gun Crime Continues to Climb

.......oh never mind.

Quote:

Gun crime has plunged in the United States since its peak in the middle of the 1990s, including gun killings, assaults, robberies and other crimes, two new studies of government data show.

Yet few Americans are aware of the dramatic drop, and more than half believe gun crime has risen, according to a newly released survey by the Pew Research Center.

In less than two decades, the gun murder rate has been nearly cut in half.
Other gun crimes fell even more sharply, paralleling a broader drop in violent crimes committed with or without guns. Violent crime dropped steeply during the 1990s and has fallen less dramatically since the turn of the millennium.

Here's the complete surprise lol

Quote:

Despite the remarkable drop in gun crime, only 12% of Americans surveyed said gun crime had declined compared with two decades ago, according to Pew, which surveyed more than 900 adults this spring. Twenty-six percent said it had stayed the same, and 56% thought it had increased.
Gun crime has plunged, but Americans think it's up, says study - latimes.com

For an understanding of how the human mind works or doesn't work with media overload take a read of this. One (of many) reasons I do not watch TV whatsoever.

Yeah, we don't have too many guns available to too many losers.
Those other countries have so many guns.

Violent crime has dropped across the board, so wouldn't gun crime drop too? There's nothing surprising about a drop in gun crime.

But it's a really good point that the public perception is influenced by media coverage of tragic events. It's too bad that the public doesn't have a clue about much, gun facts included.

Trends go up and down. There are so many possible reasons for today's drop in crime that a solid explanation of cause and affect is nearly impossible.
For instance, the price of cocaine has dropped over the last two decades or so. It somewhat parallels the drop in crime.
We might even consider the fact that many young people are sitting at home doodling with their electronics instead of roaming the streets.
And their has been a steady drop in the number of households with guns even though more guns are being sold.
And laws have been stiffened for using a gun in the commission of a crime.
And...
And...

No one can say for sure what's going on. But it's an inescapable fact that compared to other developed countries we have way more guns and way more gun violence, no matter what the short-term trend is.
Would Mexico have so much gun violence if it weren't for a ready supply of arms?
Would the U.S.?
A little less gun violence is good but when you look at the numbers there is nothing to crow about here in the land of the free, the home of the misinformed.

Any person who shares our stats with ANY OTHER COUNTRY who doesn't haven't a porous southern border is an imbecile, at best. How's that for short and to the point?

Bottom line is, what MIGHT work for other countries will never work here due to our porous southern border. Our government has FAILED this nation for 60+ yrs on the War on Drugs, it's IMPOSSIBLE to stop the flow into this nation and we are making BILLIONAIRES out of these scumbags. (Joaquin Guzman Loera - Forbes)

And you imbeciles think a total ban on weapons from law abiding citizens will work? Your level of stupid is immeasurable and beyond comprehension.

The ONLY people you will succeed with are the very same people who are NOT the problem in this nation, law abiding citizens.

FACT: Criminals will ALWAYS find a way to arm themselves illegally.
FACT #2: we will make even more scumbags south of the border millionaires or worse by creating another black market for weapons!

Weapon bans will NOT work in the US, other countries who have the luxury of being surrounded by water or having far superior and enforceable border jumping policies may have more success but I'm not convinced of that either without more details.

Should we have a total ban on cutting instruments as well?

regardless of the weapon used homicide is unfortunate.

Homicide is not an crime of opportunity it is a crime of Human(individual) nature and the access to guns doesn't change the rate with which homicide will occur. We could say that there is a natural rate of homicide that will never be changed. What that level is, is up to interpretation. Yes it is sad but is a fact of being human. Homicide is typically associated with certain risk lifestyles while "innocent" deaths are a minority and truly saddening(domestic abuse, bystander...etc) again we have to keep in mind a natural rate of homicide. If you are an individual capable of killing and want to kill you will.

It is obvious from the breakdown of data that certain countries/regions are more homicidal than others. Removing guns or passing laws that only law abiding citizens(typically those that deal with conflict in an means other then killing) does nothing to effect those that will kill anyways.

Laws will solve nothing. Just as drunk driving, no seat belt wearing etc used to be more common in decades past, the ATTITUDES surrounding them caused the change not the laws. As a child drunk driving, seat belt wearing were constantly brought up at school etc and an attitude toward responsibility was entrenched through generations, I guarantee that no child growing up gave a rats ass if about laws because they would never be prosecuted and they were not directed at them. Behavior to a great degree is learned, thus if the wrong lessons or none at all are taught then you end up with attitudes that may be harmful and actions to follow.

Study: Despite drop in gun crime, 56% think it's worse

if these pos MSM release this information then there must be no denying it. I'm surprised they even reported on it...

rubbish
First, don't ever wink at me.

Second, nice attempt at comparing your shithole to a nation 5x larger than yours and ignoring the fact that the weakened portions (blue states) are no different than your pathetic nation.

And please, don't talk to me about "defenceless" when you have unarmed police officers who never stood a chance by being killed by armed bad guys..... who'd ever think that was possible in a handgun ban nation?
