RC5184 Welcome Capita! A few of the Marines I've run into like the Kawi' 650 as their first bikes. It looks great, they like the ergonomics, and thus far, none of them have "grown out" of them! Just my .02! My first sport bike was the 05 Kawi 636, definitely not a great 1st sport bike, but I learned a lot, took advise of serious riders, and stayed level headed. It made a pretty good street bike and excellent track machine! When I was stationed in Houston, TX, I got to attend open track days at the Houston Motorsport Ranch in Cresson & it was a "humbling" experience, but it did teach me cornering, entrance/exit techniques, to respect the machine, and higher CC's aren't everything!

AKDMA SV650 gets my vote. Fast and manageable for a new rider.
