i had to have a key made a couple months ago when i lost the only key that came with the bike.
i called the local dealership, and they claimed to have no way of cutting the key based off the VIN number,or any other method other than having an original to copy.
i ended up pulling the trunk lock off and a locksmith shop matched the key off the number imprinted on the cylinder and cut it in about five minutes for a couple bucks.pretty simple.
also,a couple years ago,i tried getting a duplicate key made at Wal-Mart so i'd have a backup(not like i'd ever actually need it).they don't have the proper blank to do it.not sure if your average key cutting place would either, since it's basically like an ATV size key.
