Default Department of Suspension/Jason Etter: BEWARE!!!

I've had dealings with him before and I'll be straight forward honest, the guy is a very good suspension expert. He does a lot of research and builds a great, very sturdy and well made product. Sadly, he has a personality problem which leads to everyone else to be the bad guy.

The other "issue" is the sheer fact, you really don't know much about him. No web site, no telephone number that works and a yahoo e-mail address. He has products that nobody else has as well. So does that sound like a scam to anybody else?

So I ordered his geometry kit, which looks like an awesome product, having seen it on an ebay ad. I heard about it months previous and wanted one, but didn't have the money. So I e-mailed him and in a set of conversations, which went very nicely, he took my credit card number and sold me a kit. I told him explicitly to ship them 3 day Fedex so I'd have them before the week was out, having ordering them last monday. I was told they'd ship tuesday and arrive today.

Post purchase, I e-mailed and called him to get my tracking number, no response. This lasted the entire week until finally on saturday, I sent him a slightly less pleasant e-mail stating that if I didn't hear from him or see a product by monday, I'd be canceling the deal on my end through my credit card provider.

So today I called Fedex/UPS and the postal service to have a back-track done on my address to see if any packages were headed my way and as it turns out, nothing was comin'. So here I am, its been 1 week since I ordered this item, having guaranteed delivery by last friday and no shipments have been sent towards me.

Here are a few other people waiting for product from him:

Now, no word out of him. After hearing you with exact same problem, I sent him an email tonight requesting a full refund. I am kicking myself for not listening to the feedback posted here, as well at other sites, about how shady Jason is. His auto response on his email is laughable. Something about a lot of snow and his internet is out. I can't believe I could lose $1200 to this dude. Good luck Tye and I hope it works out for you.

He does answer my e-mails so I'll give him a bit longer. I could always drive to his house, I'm in Indiana and he's in Ohio. I'm over there from time to time. And, my mechanic buddies at the local dealership know him too, so, I could always track him down through them if I have to. For now, I sit.

I literally have the ability to crush his reputation to hundreds of people, maybe more when you look at how far the Web goes. You'd think doing what he does he'd want that reputation to be solid and for good word to get out but more often than not it seems I read posts where he's stiffed people or taken forever to deliver. I now find myself as one of them. As long as he comes through for me I'm willing to look the other way. Time will tell.
Stay away from this guy! I hope this thread stays here forever as a reminder of how bad stupid this guy is. Together, we can collectively make sure he never does business again.

Thanks for your time and attention...

Default E-Bay

Did you order it thru E-Bay?

Or from him directly?

I agree this will be good. The man has some history here.

I too was tempted, recently, until I read all the negative feedback!!! That's what forums are for, after all!

Is there anything he is selling that can't be had from Ducshop or Motowheels?

here is Jason's reply

Yes, I am a dick:
I can be the nicest guy in the world, but I can also be a total dick. I start nice, but I refuse to take any “customer crap” and that is when I turn into a dick. I have been in retail in one form or another for almost 20 years. I know all the “customer moves”. It may only take me a one paragraph in an email to figure out that someone is going to be a lot more trouble than they are worth or the kind of person who will never be happy. My friends and I that run businesses call them the 5%’rs. 5% of the customer base is a total waste of time and will suck up 95% of your day. You then end up not being able to service “good customers” correctly. I “fire” the 5%’rs as soon as they are identified and refuse to service them. Does that make me a dick? Probably. Were they a dick? Probably. A majority of the people that bitch about me are people that I told them what I think of them and then fired them. They don’t like that, so they post until their fingers bleed. I want to make it perfectly clear. I am a dick when I need to be. And when I need to be is when that one person is going to be such a large problem I can’t service the good customers how I would like to.

If you just read that and are thinking “He’s a total dick and where does he get off acting that way I will never buy anything from there” you probably victimize business frequently and are so high maintenance that good customers can’t be serviced correctly. You probably just saved me the trouble of telling you to shop elsewhere. Thank you.

In conclusion:
If you want a fantastic product at a great price that was designed by someone with an engineering and design background. A place that can make one off custom parts if you need them. Someone who is able to throw down faster laps than 99% of the customer base and all of the Ducati “Suspension Guys” which provides a perspective that the competition can’t comprehend. A guy who has been pounding on Ducati’s since before they were cool. The product is made out of a very small operation, your “Hole in The Wall” setup. Run by someone who doesn’t take anyone’s crap and is not going to be your new “buddy” and certainly won’t be blowing smoke up you a$$. A shop where sometimes there is a wait because we are short a part out of the 18 that make up the kit because we can’t afford to stock $50K in parts on the shelf and we sometimes run short. Sometimes we ship in a day, sometimes its 3 weeks. A place that does its own R&D and will certainly drive you crazy once in a while you found the right place for your Ducati suspension needs.

This post is so rich! Then he himself chimes in to say that he can sympathize w/ Jason. One is selling suspension parts w/ a shitload of R&D/engineering and one is selling flimsy carbon trinkets. This thread is destined to be a classic!

His geometry package is quite a bit different. Using 25mm offset triple clamps rather than the 30 that everyone else runs.

I did business with Jason when he was at Section8. I appreciated his feedback and customer support way back then (probably 5 years ago), and I told him so.

However, since then he keeps saying things and sounding off like a whiny little girl. It is in a word unprofessional, in a business full of professionals. Somewhere he got the idea that he was doing us favors - he's not, he's doing business, and he needs to act like a businessman.

I understand that he does a lot of research on suspension - but so do other guys, with the added benefit that they are not annoying to listen to or read.

After a while, I lose interest and go somewhere else with my $$. I just don't have time for the drama-queen antics anymore.

I do not know the guy or have I ever done business with him but any business who acts like that do not deserve our business. If a business does not do what they say they are going to do or brakes a deal (writen, phone or hand shake) can’t be trusted and deserve to go out of business.

BTW, he is absolutely right about the 5% thing, but how he has handled it also puts off the other 95%.

The guy who is a PITA is the one who will badmouth your business endlessly if you "fire" him to all his friends, your potential customers.

Wow, 25mm offset... That's interesting, and explains the radiator brackets

I was told years ago that when you're in business and mess up, customers will tell 8-10 people that you suck. When you do the job as advertised they tell 1-2 people!!
That's just the nature of the biz.....
