Default Ignitek TCIP4 is amazing

  • Ok, so I sell it, so I should think it is amazing ... but I didn't get to use one until yesterday. I had sold it and recommended it based solely on customer feedback.
  • Stupid easy to install... it has 2 white connectors and 2 black ones. On your carb'd Monster or SS, you see the ignition modules... one of them has black & yellow input wires. The black connectors go here. The other cylinder has the white and red wires... white connectors go there.
  • Hook up a generic usb to serial adaptor to a computer and run their software. Turn on the ignition and tell the program to Read the module. There's your current map. Click on "graph" and then you get this plot with the data points that you can just drag around to set the rpm and advance. Click Program and it's done.
  • I was trying to get another "Pongo" build running and it was very very cantankerous. I hooked this thing up hoping for the best... the flywheel was already 2 degrees retarded so the bike didn't want to start. I tweaked the initial advance back 2 degrees at a time from 10 to 4 degrees. Then I settled at 3, with the first data point at 900 rpm. Then I tweaked the midrange until it wouldn't pop when revved.
  • It completely transformed the characteristic of the engine. It transformed an unruly beast into a smooth purring kitty cat. Well, until you pin the throttle... It has a rev limiter that is setable and actually works.
  • One customer also used an Ignitek ignition to convert his Sport Classic to run FCRs. These Czeck guys hit a home run with this box.

I believe that is what he is talking about. He is a picture of the kit from his website.

$200 isn't too bad. In line with the PC type products. Very cool.

I am getting one of these for sure to tweak my ignition. Anybody else using one at this point?

It took me a while to find this thread because Chris spelled Ignitech wrong!

On his website it is spelled correctly "Ignitech Sparker TCIP4 Ignition" under the electrical section. Chris's spelling is cooler though!

I will report here on my success with this unit...

Red face Enjoying mine

Chris - I'm thoroughly enjoying mine as well. I really need to put the bike up on the dyno to get it most appropriately sorted out I think though.

With the FCR's, is it possible to link up the TPS feature on the Ignitech? I found these part numbers in the Sudco Catalog for a TPS sensor and harness for the FCR's:

021.561 1621-844 HARNES $23.15
021.560 1614-812 SENSOR $84.89

Well and then here's a response we got from Sudco...

Quote:
Sudco Part number 016-671, the 41mm FCR carbs for the Yamaha TRX850 are basically the same as the Ducati FCR carbs. The biggest difference is the TRX850 carbs have the mount and throttle shaft for a TPS, where the Ducati carbs do not and these pieces are not available individually. The other difference is the TRX850 have longer spigots, different jetting and cable bracket then the Ducati, but all these pieces are available for purchase. Basically, if you purchased the 016-671 carbs, TPS from a 98 or earlier Yamaha TRX850, changed the jetting, spigots and bracket you would have Ducati FCR41 carbs with TPS.
You actually can't purchase the spigots for the Ducati dual FCRs. They're never available and are stupidly expensive. So the next question would be how much longer are the TRX spigots...

Alternatively, we have a customer who got FCRs + TPS working on his bike and he is reporting a huge improvement in driveability. I'm hoping he'll reply with some details of how he got it all to work.

Do let me know!

I'm very interested in the TPS/FCR/TCIP4 combination. I just used as many acronyms as I could.

I'm using an ignitech box on my old-dog project FZR1000 with FCR's.

Haven't gotten it running yet, but will post when I do.

I wish that they offered the 3D ignition stuff on their generic FI box.

Their stuff looks very, very good for the $.

I'd just find a local machinist to make carb spigots. Would not likely be expensive.

Spigots...

Is this the same as the airbox adapter? I didn't see a spigot listed in the parts list here: http://www.sudco.com/Diagrams323728/expfcr.gif

But if we go across the waters, Kaemna has some listed:
Ducati Aprilia Kämna - Tuning-Parts Catalog

Quote:
CNC milled aluminum adapter to connect the 39 and 41mm Keihin-batterys to the original airbox of the Monster and SS models. Scope of supply contains the o-ring for the carb. Price for one piece.
They aint cheap though, at 59,90 euros a piece.

Nope, it's not those. Those things are about that price for the pair from Sudco. Look up part number 021-212.

I'm talking about the threaded round things like on this Sudco catalog page.

Looking at the catalog, the 33E are suddenly listed! Oooo! Looks like they finally have them in stock, as they're actually listing the part number, 020-493, which list for $56 each.

Chris,

I may just be calling you tomorrow afternoon (my time, CST) to discuss the possibility of a Keihin FCR-41 tandem (or duals) setup for TPS / Ignitech, perhaps you could brainstorm tonight what you'd price a 'package' at. ducatiz on the DMF is also interested, and a few others have expressed similar interest.

Ended up spending the money I had at the time on some billet, monobloc 6-piston calipers...SOOOOOO... this got delayed again....

Here's some info I had compiled in the process:
Ignitions (Options for Carbed Monsters)
Other bikes w Ignitech TCI-P4 ign module

Nothing really all that different than posted here. More updates in the future.
