Default 749/999 Can it run without Gauges?

HI I have a 749 (Dark) that has been converted to a race bike. The gauges were smashed in a crash and the bike will not currently start. Must the bike have the gauges (tach etc.)? Or should it run without? Any help would be appreciated. ALso anyone who has gauges for sale let me know.
Thanks,

Could possbily be an issue with the transponder. What happens when you try to start her up? Anything?

it needs the guages to operate properly! the guages house some of the information that is required to operate the ECU properly (mostly the immobilizer function)

...probably a greater possibility than the transponder issue.

I've been through this as I've smacked up the gauges myself....

The bike will not run (on a stock ecu) without them. The ecu needs to "see" the gauge package in order to start the bike.

There is no "writable" memory in the gauges, but the ecu will "learn" the serial number of the gauges and the key...

I don't think a Nemesis needs to see guages to run the bike....

When I turn the key on the fuel pump DOES come on and pressure up without issue. However the starter does not even attempt to start the bike. I have checked to see if I have power at the switch which there is not. I jumped the starter relay and there is no issue. Using a jumper wire to the starter switch the bike does turn over but there is no spark. Could it be the ecu is now locked? (immobilized?) Is that something the red key would fix?
Sorry I'm new to Ducati, allways raced Yamaha's. Ideally I'd love to use one of the AIM guages for racing and not use the stock guages but I need to get the bike running first.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Ultimap has recently released their own ECU for late model 2001+ Ducatis called the U59 which allows you to run any bike without the red/black keys and with a dash out of a different (but same model) bike. In theory, you should be able to run the bike w/out the dash, but I haven't confirmed. But I do know that if you use the U59 ECU you can run the bike off a toggle switch, theryby removing the key tumbler assembling all together.

It can be run with an aftermarket dash and switch for ignition, but the ecu will need some reprogramming. I'm working on a solution but don't have it fully tried out yet, hopefully I'll have one running this winter.

there were problems in the past using the ultimap with the 749/999. i'm not sure whether or not they've ironed out the wrinkles.

Just recently solved a problem with my lighting portion of the wiring harness on my S4R (not same bike I know, but I am sure similar wiring). As it turns out, if there is no power to the gauge cluster the bike will NOT start. The gauges have to be there, and have to be powered. And yes, the fuel pump and fans will work, but the bike won't start without the gauges having power. The way I remember it: the power runs thru the lighting portion of the harness, to the gauges and from the gauges back to the ECU. I am sure there is a work-around out there, just not sure how (non-factory ECU probably). HTH
