998 fairings vs 916 fairings.....

Hey I'm curious if anyone has installed the newer ventless 998 fairings on an older 996 or 916. I've been told the newer bikes have 2 rad fans to compensate. The thing is I'm never in traffic, so I doubt the fan ever cuts on anyway. I want to use these ventless fairings (ventless tail as well) on a '98 916 I'm re-building. If anyone has done this and wound up with cooling problems, please let me know.

I have installed ventless 998 style fairings(non oem) and ventless tail, on my 98 748 and unfortunatley spend a lot of time in traffic some days, No problems to speak of with overheating. If I'm sitting for a while (90 degree+ days) in traffic my legs will start to heat up to the point where I have to squirm a bit.
I heard that you could replace your fan with an aluminum one for better cooling if it is necessary, or install a fan switch to turn it on manually, but it sounds like you won't have any problems.

i have newer style fairings on my 2000 748s so you should have no problems. however, you may need to move your fuse block down a bit for the mesh to clear.

'02 style farings fit fine with zero modification or noticable difference in running temps on my '00 748r.

I put 998 style with the belly pan on my 1998 748. Haven't ridden it with them on yet, but it looks a hell of a lot better.

When these pictures were taken I was still waiting on the fasteners for the belly pan so it is just tapped on, and a bit crooked at that. Also they are waiting for paint, they are just primed in the picture.

What brand are they?....where'd you get them?

I read somewhere a guy tried to put 998 fairing on a 916 and it was not Ok: There was a gap on the bottom, beetween the two side.
His theory is that the 998 frame is different (narrower...or wider) than the previous 996/916. I find that strange. I think they have the same specs.

Put on a bellypan then, problem solved.
Plus it looks better, and will retain oil and bolts when something goes wrong, keeping it off your rear tire.(personal experience)

pretty sure they are the same spec too.

mine are from yoyodyne, they are sebimoto. Fit wasn't perfect, but once I trimmed and drilled them, they fit great.

Yoyodyne doesn't have any street belly pans. Fred says the race and street ones are different at the sidestand, and he won't have any till June. I'm thinking I'm just gonna use my stock stuff over. Any idea where to get a CF street bellypan that can attach to (modified) stock lowers?....would like to have a 998 style (no vents) street tail section in CF as well. Haven't had much luck there.

The race version wouldn't have a cut out for the side stand.

I have them and I also have them in fiberglass or carbon. I also have a onr piece belly pan that incorporates your belly and the lowers in one piece. check them out on our site.

I like that 1 piece lower......what about an unpainted CF street tail with no vents?, and a fiberglass street upper?

Which type do you guys think is more aerodynamic, the 916 style or the 998 style?? I would say the 916 style because there is more cutouts for the air to enter to cool off the engine do you guys agree?

Actually the 998 style was made for less resistance

So I would disagree

was the 998 style made to actually create less resistance or was it more aesthetics to mimick ducati race bikes...(which probably had less resistance )
