Will it Fit?????

Well sold the 996 am going to get a 2004 998 Matrix on Saturday, 473 miles on it perfect in every way, micron full exhaust, pit bull stand, 2 shoei helmets, some carbon etc. etc., well i need to know if shell fit in my Avalanche, its a 2002. Hoping it will fit without taking the back glass and top down. If anyone can measure how long the bike is i would greatly appreciate it, i will be of course leaving the tailgate down but really dont want to drive 1100 miles with the rear section opened.

you'll need 80" of truck bed to close the tailgate.

so if i leave it open i imagine i still need 80" of space then???

I measured from the front tire (as if it was against the front wall of a regular truck bed) to the back end of the rear tire. That's how much length you'd need to shut the tailgate.

He's not asking if he can shut the tailgate. He has an Avalanche. You know those funky car/truck transformer things. He's trying to figure out if it will fit in the normal bed with the tailgate down or if he will have to fold the seat/back panel/glass in as well.

I hope this can shine a light...
I saw a 02 Aprilia RSV owner load his bike onto the Avalanche bed. Without removing the back glass and top, he had to load the bike diagonally and the rear gate had to stay down. But then, the RSV and the 998 does not have the exact same dimensions...

From the front edge of the front tire to the contact patch of the rear tire is a little over 67". So with tailgate down, if you have anything more than about 68" from the front wall to the edge of the tailgate, you should be able to fit the bike in there without dropping the midgate. (You could always load it diagonally if it's borderline).

I take it you never had your 996 loaded in the Avalanche?

On the Chevy website, it says the box length inside (midgate up) is 63". So obviously, the rear tire will sit on the tailgate, but it should easily fit without opening up the midgate...

Have fun getting it up there, though! That tailgate is, what, 3 feet off the ground?
