Default What is a 1998 916 worth?

actual miles unknown, all the body work is there but its track plastics in fair shape, needs new rear tire. it appears to have pretty low miles, nothing bent, no evidence of a hard crash. the guy is in the process of replacing a lost title, so if that goes through it will be a clean title. the guy isnt desperate to sell, but seems like he would be reasonable on the price, only thing is he doesnt know how much to ask and i dont know how much to offer. what should i offer him? if it was a jap liter-bike of the same year it would be worth 2000-2500 tops in the same condition, but i have no idea what a ducati should be worth and there arent many bikes around like this to compare prices.

well its had a few owners, so the maintenance history is sketchy at best. bikes in good condition seem to go for about 5-6K, but i cant find anything in this condition. just picture a 916 with poorly painted track plastics and a dented gas tank, and thats this bike.

From what I've seen over the last year, that 916 sounds like a $3500-$4500 bike. If you keep an eye out, you can often find minty 916/996 bikes in the $5500-$6500 range (I've seen a really nice 996 in the last couple of weeks for $6000 - FS: 99 Ducati 996 Mono $6k - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum ).

This would make me lean toward $3500-$4500 even more for the 916, as I've seen a lot of early '90s GSXR 750 and 1100 bikes going in the $3000-$4500 range in really nice shape and $2000-$2500 in rough, nearly non-running, condition.

Default well

i think that once you spend the money to get the bike where you need it maintnence wise you have lost out .....id let this one go due to the sketchy title...it could be a salvege deal that has been re titled. just my .2

I agree with the $3500-4500 figure. That being said, what do you plan on doing with it? Track day riding? Then that's one things...but if you're planning on making it a decent street bike, then I'd stay away and get one with good records and plastics.
