Default Removing Rear head.

Well, now that the season is over for me, it is time to remove the heads and get them ported for its' winter maintenance. My question is, what is the easiest way to drop the engine? I remember seeing some type of U bracket to go into the frame and the swngarm, but I do not have those. Any other ways to remove the engine that is easy for one person to do? Thanks.

If you have a monster, you don't have to drop the engine to remove the heads.

On my SS, I remove the front engine mount and loosen the rear (with a jack under the engine), and I can rotate the engine forward enough to remove the vertical cylinder head without dropping the engine (this is after removing pipes, carbs, chain, shock, etc.). - BrianK

You might have better luck getting help if you noted what bike you have!

My bad....1995 900 ss. I did not know about just removing the front, but I would like to take the engine out any way to clean up the pistons and to degree the cams. I decided to just make my own brackets out of pipe for now. Thanks for the replies.

What I said about my 97 should apply to your 95. Lotta work, but mostly dissassembly/reassembly. "Bag and tag" and label everything you take off and it should go just fine. When in doubt, post a question - that's what I do, and Marvin (and others - thanks all!) save me every time. If I can help, let me know - I gotta lotta karma to repay, just from this board alone! Best of luck - BrianK

PS, no expert here, but I dropped my engine to install new pistons, so I dunno why you couldn't achieve your goals this way (i.e., tilting the engine forward without actually dropping it out of the frame), but I'm sure you will get additional and better advice from the real pros. - BrianK

the easiest way is to hold the rear wheel with something(i use the vise on a workbench but you dont have one most likely) then block under the motor, remove wires conecting the engine and the intakes. now remove the engine bolts and rear shock bolt- walk the front off the engine
