Default Superbike Fork Question?

Howdy all, does anyone know or have a measurement for the thickness of the tube wall in the top stanchion for 748/996 forks right at the 53mm dia point .... a n d does anyone have the same measurement for a standard set of 50mm Showas?

Any help would be great, many thanks Andi

(gonna shove this post on DML as well so sorry if you read it twice)

The 50mm set uses thinner bushings and has a smaller ID than the SBK jobs. I think it is by 0.5mm but that is just my lousy memory. I will try to remember to measure once I open some up.

I think the wall thickness is the same on both forks. On the SS fork you have 40mm tube running in a 50mm stanchion, in the SBK fork you have 43mm tube running in a 53mm stanchion. Odds are that the clearance required for the seals and bushings are the same or very nearly so.

Thanks Rick and Alex

I should have put my reason to ask as well, I have a set of 748 forks to put on Malattia and the top triples on the MH are for standard 50 mm.

I have looked at the casting thickness of the top triple of the MH and established it would be easy and no problem to remove 1.50 mm each side to bore it out to 53mm.

I wondered if it might have been easier to turn off 3.0 mm from the top of the 748 forks but by the sounds of it it can not be done.

I will stick to boring the top triple to 53 mm, I am guessing and assuming the top triple from a 748/96 will not fit an MH.

Different offset. But you could improve the handling by putting on 27 mm offset triples I am pretty sure yours are 30mm and those are available from a number of sources.

Handling now is ok, just need the forks to work, MH900e factory forks are non adjustable, to harsh in compression damping, to slow in rebound damping and sprung to soft, to grab a fist full of anchors you can bottom the forks out, I am 75 kg so not over the top really.

Blew a left fork seal which has let all the oil out, the forks work better now than before

How would a 27 mm offset go with the 23 degree steering rake tho, I have my damper well up so te stering is stiffer cos she likes to shake her head a bit on rougher surfaces.

Rear shock is a disaster as well, will look for a Penske, WP or Ohlins when coin allows.
