Default LED question

I decided to put an LED in to illuminate my License plate. It looks great, but all they had was red, and the light output sucks big time. Anyone know of a good source for a BRIGHT white LED that is 12v ready? I tried Radio Shack, but no luck. Thanks in advance.

I used a white step light from Custom Dynamics. It has a bit of a blue tint, but does the job very nicely:

you want raw LED's???

try this...

http://www.led-supply.com/leds.html

and these are supposed to be the brightest on the market, but you'll have to find a supplier...

Well I went to a local store and bought a bright white LED and installed it. $2.50 later here is what I have.

Supplies: One LED, one resistor, & a LED holder.

Okay I didn't have any heat-shrink tubing, but it won't be seen. Soldered everything up and viola!

Final result. Doesn't look too shabby. Brighter than what I had. Me thinks it is bright enough not to get a ticket now.

Let me know whatcha think.

I would recommend:

http://www.mouser.com or
http://www.digikey.com

They have a ton of Superbrite LEDs in various sizes, up to I think 10mm
