Thoughts on Scotts billet oil filter

I've been thinking about going to one of these for both the ST4 and the 996. Does anybody else use this? It seems cost effective (with filters at $12+ each, I would recoup the cost in less than 2 seasons) and I like the thought of being able to inspect the screen for chrome shavings...

Anybody have any personal experience?

Did you end up fitting this? How is it??

Got one for my CRF450 and its worked absolutely great. Of course it was only around $70 bucks but when you consider the K&N paper filters are $11 bucks at the shop by me and they reccommend changing ever 10 hours the economics are a no-brainer.

I've actually been considering picking one up for my Monster this year.

Why? Are the numbers upside down??

Seriously - my folks live in Bowen and my mother is here visiting for a few more weeks. If you really want, I could arrange for one to fall into her luggage if you want to work things out with her when she returns - I expect her to be back is OS in mid March.

I've used a Scotts in my YZ426 for a few years. Works great and I've had no problems with it. I just hose it down with brake cleaner to wash it and then let it dry before reinstalling it.

I am using one on my 98 748, I ride my bike hard, especially on the track. I like to change my oil about 2k miles, so I just unscrew the oil filter pop out the snap ring, check the magnet, spray the whole thing with brake-kleen, blow it out with air and put it back together on the bike. I have done 2 oil changes with it so far, no problem and no complaints.

BTW I live close to Scott's performance. I just went to the shop and bought one. If any of you guys have problems getting them. I can take paypal and send it to ya.

I now understand were some of you are coming from when you give me and other guys shite about showing pics of mods and new stuff we get for our rides. It reaffirms the fact that there are still lots of very cool and useful things that can be purchased.

There was a guy on the http://www.ducatimonster.org BBS that bought one. It leaked. He talked to Scott's, worked on it some more. Then it leaked again and he crashed in the oil leaked from the scott's filter. Then a couple other people piped up that theirs were leaking, too, so they took them off and went back to OE style cartridge filters. Due to that, the entire http://www.ducatimonster.org BBS considers them verboten.

i put one on my monster two years and 12k miles ago...i like the finned billet look...and the stainless mesh but...the integral magnet broke lose and got stuck in my oil pump...it is not fastened well to the filter...using the filter requires replacing the stock threaded steel nipple so it prevents easy reusing of a stock filter...and it's advertised as permanent 100k mile useage but there is no replaceable O ring and scott has resisted answering my dozen email requests about that issue...so far no leaks and with a change the integral magnet and info on the gasket i could still recommend this filter...

Got the tip from Scooter re filter.
It has a 17mm head and a safety hole for wire.
Looks like problem solved.

Another "thing" about the Scott oil filter is how they seem totally unaware that Ducatis have the oil screen and make the untrue claim that there is no protection of major debris when the oil filter's internal bypass opens. I totally understand how their product has aspects which make it something "neat" but it seems that their R&D and marketing for the Ducatis is a bit off the mark.
